What's the difference between the hexs and the tiles of civ 4? Most ppl seem to agree its better. Why? Whats the difference?

they allow for movement better than squares. With hexes units will move farther with the same MP that units on tiles. Tiled units have to turn constantly move diagonally while with hexes they can just move in a straight line.

Hex tiles are used in a lot of tabletop war games and were adopted a long time ago as a superior and accurate movement system rather than squares

The old way does not work for moving diagonally... You gain free MPs...

The designers said that hex tiles allow for a much more natural terrain generation, and I have to agree with that.

But the real benefit is that each tile is evenly spaced from the next.
With a square grid, a unit can inconsistently consume their movement points. Moving one tile west then one tile north is 2 movement points, whereas they could go directly north-west and only use one point.
With a hex, one move is one point, no matter which direction you take to get where you are going.
