What's the story on the MP Ping Function?

As I'm sure everyone knows the ping is useless as it provides no indication (sound or visual) to teammates that you've pinged a plot. Is this a intended change or a bug? Anyone able to mod it back in?

The ping is a good tool to inform your allies where on a map certain activities take place. You get a ping by another player - you hit the button and hop directly to that field

I believe he was referring to the pre-patch ping that was completely ineffectual.

The latest BtS patch has the ping working the way it did before.
