Whats wrong with automation?

Here's a tip: (I think it works anyway, hehe)

If you don't want your cities to produce specialists, the city governor can actually help you. Just highlight the food, production, and commerce icons and it won't assign any specialists.

Ooh, thanks for the tip, I'll try this in my next game. :king:

Well I gotta say, I started a game earlier and have controlled all of my workers since the beginning, and I'm astonished by the difference. I can actually find balance and make a city versitile in terms on income, population, and production instead of specializing each city like the AI seems to do.

I'd rather have 5 cities that can produce Swordsmen in 4 turns than 2 that can produce them in 3 turns and 3 that can produce them in 6 turns like the AI usually does.

Also being selective about improvements has allowed me to combat my constant overexpansion issues. After my first few turns (I found a village with some cash) I haven't been broke since despite having 8 cities before the renissance

Why would anyone automate their workers? Worker improvements are what bring in the commerce, food or production to your empire and are therefore the building blocks for the entire game.

If you're going to automate your workers there might as well be a button you can press to research whatever the computer thinks you should do next and do away with all control of your empire apart from moving your units around.

I really fail to see why anyone would want to automate their workers since it's one of, if not the, most important areas of the game.
