Hey Guys!

I am back online after being without a modem the last couple weeks...I've been trying to survive on the computers at the library...

Needless to say...it wasn't working...on top of that...I went the longest without playing civ because my ops system died on me as well (that was because of my modem too!)...

Looks like it is time for a new computer anyway...so, any recommendations? All of you have been playing Civ for a while and some of you have a wish list for your computer...what is it!

John

p.s. I did not lose any data with the computer problems, luckily...but I almost did...maybe I should consider a CD-R!

I have a cordless keyboard and it is brilliant for playing Civ. I can sit with the board on my knees and sit quite far from my computer. This allows me to watch TV and play Civ at the same time.

1. Harry Turtledove's World War

That is what I'm working on and could use some help with units.

I don't want to discourage you, but a guy called Scott F has almost completed a brilliant scenario based on Turtledove's books (check out the 'Great War' thread on the Apolyton Scenario League board)

Hey Anarchy,

Sounds good for the cordless keyboard. I have thought about one for a long time...I guess this is my cue...Also, I write mods so I am going to go with a huge screen this time around...

Hey, Art of War-

There seems to be a trend on this now...but graphics often can change a lot of aspects in a scenario these days...I highly recommend the best you can find...please contact some of the people who have posted in the forum...they will be more than glad to help as I have found...

What else should I be thinking about>?

World War is about these aliens that invade Earth during 1941. I have downloaded Great War, and I have Fantastic Worlds, but for some reason I can't play it. Who knows?!

Alright!

Well as usual...this has transformed into a thread about scenarios as opposed to machine parts to build them. Which is what makes me perfectly happy, commenting on such things is so important these days ;)

I have continued to wrestle with my North and South scenario now for quite some time...continually moving back the release date...changing, changing, changing. I'm still not happy with it, it's not bad, but I'm not happy with it...I want something more...so I bought the American Heritage History of the Civil War...I expect to have it read by next weekend :goodjob:

On the other hand, Lunar II is finished...and I've been dragging my feet writing the readme file.

What shall do with myself...

The Vietnam scenario I am working on is suspended until I can get a book that I can reference...

The Mars II: Ancient Mars scenario is suspended only due to the fact that I have to redo 8 sounds that are critical to the storyline of the scenario...otherwise the scenario is in its "polishing" stage with only a few cosmetic graphics needed. :crazyeye:

Future Scenarios:

Alpha Centauri -SMAC

The Return of Tugayayaal -A Native American Scenario

Space: 1999 -Yes, that cheezy TV show from the 70's (stop laughing!)

The Ocean -Another shot at the animal scene; you'll love it!

As usual, they are all done simultaneously...just like a race...may the best scenario win.

That would be because it requires MGE :) (which is also advailable on this site)

Yes, SPACE: 1999 was about the moon traveling through space...and the story line I am working on is going to be in synch with the show...you just have to trust me on this one...

I am a member of another forum that discusses computers. As far as brand names go, the people over there seem to hate compaqs and e-machines.

Popular opinion is that 256MB is the minimum amount of RAM to run XP, not the 128MB Microsoft recommends. Another thing you might consider for back up storage is a ZIP drive. They hold 250MB removable storage.

I run XP on 512k of RAM with no problem whatsoever. :D

John - I wanna see the Space: 1999 scenario. ;)

Hey Carl, now that's the important stuff I need to know. Which brings up a couple questions:

1) Is there any trouble running Civ II on Win XP?

2) What about those re-writable CD-R's wouldn't that be a good storage too?

3) I do a lot of graphics...so how are the flat screens?...I don't want to go blind trying see what I am drawing on the computer...hehe

What I will probably do is buy a basic unit, so I just want to get the minimum stuff I need and transfer what I've got already to the new machine. Basically, I'll be gutting my machine. Canibalization...

;)
