State at which era do you start a militarty conquest of your continet. In some games i try not to get into a fight, but the AI forces me into one!!

I start an all out conquest, around about the Middle Ages, possibly early industrial.

What about you? :)

If I have to, mid-industrial. Mid to late medieval in AWE (sometimes D) games.

Depends upon what you mean by conquest.

I take a good chunk of land from my enemies in the acient age. But normally don't do a full scale wipe outassault without either knight or calvary(and plenty of them)

I attack mid medivel
but only the weak nations first, so i can drag in bigger nations to help me.
get friendly with them, get techs from them for cheap.
wait a few years, and slaughter them, but i like to win by other means, namsayen?

i start with archers and take my entire continent as quickly as i can, but i limit each war per civ:

War with civ A, take a couple cities, get peace for a couple more cities
War with civ B, take a few cities, get peace for a couple more cities
War with civ C . . .

then I start over after taking a chunk of each civ and this time go to wipe them out. it takes awhile in this manner having to redirect troops, but manage to finish with knights

(Emperor/Demigod games) If I start close to an AI, and have lots of production/an early UU, I'll do it in the late Ancient. Otherwise, late Middle with Cavalry and then Artillery, Infantry, and Tanks. I think Knights are overpriced, unless my UU is one of them...

My games rarely end before the Industrial Ages. Obviously it's something I should work on, but I feel that building units when your cities are using entertainers / luxury tax isn't too smart...

If I've been lucky enough to have a quickly built economy, military, and road systme, I'll attack after getting swordsme. If not, I'll normally first attack after getting medevil infantry, again after cavalry, after getting tanks, and finally after modern armor. If I haven't won yet, I'll just nuke everyone on the world and THEN conquer the world. :D

Merry Christmas, everyone! :xmas:

Middle age and industrial, I can't seem to end a game before the modern age and by then I pray for a space ship victory or diplo victory because I play on large maps a full scale domination victory can be painfully long.

MDIs and Trebs. Most effective time to fight a limited war on any level. Serious conquest with Cavs, preferably with Rifles/Musketeers or even Inf/Ari and a RR system. I just think it doesn't change much on the end date if I start with Knights, or wait for Ari.
Of course, if you happen to have a neighbor without Iron/Saltpetre, then Knights rule.

i do most of my warmongering in the late ancient to mid midevial age (right before musketmen) i always go for the SoZ and the Knights Templar on the difficulties i play on (mostly warlord, regent and monarch) i'm just plain better with early warfare because it's simpler without worries about bombardment or planes. once i have total or near total control of my island/continent i rarely warmonger (unless i need a rescorce and someone i dont like has it, because i dont like to trade)

When the game won't let you build any more cities. Playing a game with 31 other civ's. 512 cities between 32 civ's is only average 16 cities per civ.

Only way to get another city is to take it.
As you can see, this is only 170 turns into the game.

I start out early in the game when i get swordsmen. then i make another conquest when i get knights and calavry. also another conquest begins when i get tanks and modern armor.

I will typically go to war when I have a unit that provides a technology advantage (ie. first with swords) over another CIV with the purpose of grabbing 2-3 cities and then declare peace. If my advantage continues then I will do the same to a CIV on my oppostite border realizing that my recent war with the first CIV means they are in no condition to attack for awhile, thus I can shift defenses. while I focus on the new target. After a certain point I will just continue to take cities until they are eliminated (typically after Cavalry). My favorite point to start is if I can get Statue of Zeus early (decent defense, good offense and mobility, auto-produces without using shields). This way I only have to worry about making spearmen to guard the cities after they are taken. My last game was on a huge map with two continents (on regent). I had my entire continent conquered before the industrial age and had modern armor before 1900!

As soon as my expansion phase is over I start mass building Swordsmen, Catapults, and Horsemen. As soon as I have a large stack I go at it with my strongest neighbor. After they're gone I take out the next strongest nieghbor. Then depending if I own my continent, or if there's still more people on my landmass, I will either go to war again, or I will build infrastructure. I will launch an invasion force when I discover Galleons, and finish the rest of the game right around the time I am able to build Factories.
