When do you think the actual game should start?

Also, how long do you think it will take us to get ready?

Your answers to these two questions may be different (like should start soon but can't start till later). I have an opinion but will wait to see what develops here before saying what it is.

Edit: clarified the "answers may be different" part -- that line made no sense as originally written :crazyeye:

I'm going to go with the good ol' Insurgency Mod saying: "When we're ready"

As to how long it will take us to get ready, as much time as we need. Although at the current rate it looks like somewhere within February.

Well, I'd say we need to accomplish a few things first like decide what civ we're going to play, etc. Then of course we'll have to contend with those who worship the calender and want terms to start on the first of the month. So we'll prolly just not do anything for two or three weeks and then try to rush to get things ready to start March 1.

That's daft... We can start when we're ready, regardless of what day of the month it is... If that happens to be the 1st of March so much the better but if it isn't... Then too bad!

I'd support a 1st term that is either longer or shorter than a calendar month.

There are a lot of new people, well over half the ~75 registered for the game so far. Care to start another thread on turn-based terms?

But back to the question, how long should it take to get started, if we didn't delay anything needlessly?

Week and a half to elections. Tops.

Will that happen? Unlikely.

We'll realistically be ready to start elections in 3 weeks.

cant wait for this to start running :)

Having the game start on the first of each month would make things easier. A rotation could be set up and it would be one less thing to qorry about.

Easy solution. The (BIG HINT HERE --->) Election Initiative (<--- BIG HINT HERE) can simple say "The first term will run from the date the elections close until March 31. Each successive term will run from the first of the month to the end of the month."

yeah but think about this.. are we really gonna wait 24 days to start this up? i think that much downtime will lose alot of people.. and having people lead for a month is kinda overdoing it.. i say every 14 days an election should come up to determine the new leaders

In 14 days only about 40 turns max are played. Also you have to remember it takes one week for the nom/election period. So you would be looking at a week of business as usual, and then the following week for nominations and elections and then a change of power, as the cycle will keep repeating.

It really takes the power out of the official and will probably slow things down a bit.

yes i can see how a forum style election can take a while.. but still.. a month? that just seems so long for a period of rule, think in year terms.. but o well... thats just me.. i can understand why wed need a time such as a month to have those in power.. maybe when i get back from my ladies house ill write more

Before we can start, some office(s) need to be defined, the elections need to be held, and we need to decide game starting options.

Part of the point of the thread is to find out how much of a hurry the citizens are in. If "get started" really means "get started now" then we need some sense of urgency on getting these things done. We don't need to rush into the game, but in my opinion it's very important to be at least somewaht efficient.

I think a term of about a month is sensible... Especially given how long elections take...

@ Shattered- If the length irks you from an rp perspective... Which is what I think you're saying, then think of it as a dynasty rather than a single leader?

As Dave said (Feb 05) we need define some offices and game starting (a little

less than a week) and elections (a little more than a week).

So, we can begin the game in about two weeks.

Let's go to it,players.

Best regards,

What actions do we need to complete before we can start?

Here's my list:

Decide on the way to choose the civ we are playing.
Decide on the way to choose the opponent civs.
Make a decision on Vanilla vs Warlords.
Ratify the initial constitution.
Elect the initial group of DP's.
Elect the initial officers.

*edit* to compile a full list
Decide on other map options.
Decide on HoF mod/no mod.

Let's set a deadline of March 1 to have all of this done.

ps- please supplement this with any other items required to begin.
