When you found a city on a forest, shouldn't be "hammers" transfered to nearest city?

When you clear a forest, some hammers are transfered to nearest city's production. Its not a fixed quantity. I think it depends on distance to the city.

My question is, shouldn't founding a new city on top of a forest do the same?. Now it doesn't, so sometimes I use a worker to chop the forest first and then I found the city.

I don't remember it well but I think you also receive the hammers if you use a Great Person to build a special improvement on top of a forest.

Yeah it probably should be like that. doesn't your city get production bonus on it's tile when stationed on a forest? i know it does when you're on a hill

What if it's your first city? :mischief:

The forest you chop down when settling a city is used to build the houses in that city. Just as the people on grassland use, erm, grass...

It's an interesting question as the tile is improved regardless of technological level, just as if you settle your first city on dyes you don't need calendar to get the luxury.

However, the potential for exploiting by being able to settle numerous cities in one turn early in the game and rush wonders like the Great Library early on would no doubt cause an issue.

A quick-and-dirty solution would be to convert the forest into hill if there wasn't a hill beneath it before. Then it would give the extra defense and hammer(s) like a hill.

Or just leave the forest in place. Again giving the city the hammer and defence bonus from a forest tile.

Well, as you don't get the tecnology to chop down until bronze/mazory i think they just burn down the florest like some fool farmers still do today...

:nono: You need to research calender in order to get the happiness boost even if you have settled a city on dyes/sugar etc.

Maybe it's too overpowered. I can see a big advantage of getting a scout on turn 1 or an early worker.
