When you're ready...

@slappy: We do not have enough players to do an entire tournament, so it'll be one game.

Couldn't you still do a three-game series, awarding points for various finishes (win, draw, survive, etc)? That sounds a bit more like a tournament...if that's what you wanted to have.

If you want, but it'll take like a year to finish

I kinda like the mutli-game idea. How about:

3 (arbitrary, that's how many I think we can fill) games. Points are awarded based on SCs and the outcome of the game (dead, survive, draw, tie, win).

Then the top 7 scoring players face-off in a final game.

Now you gotta work out how the points work, and I would suggest getting GMs that are not CivDip related. I think Myst of Avalon would do me a favor and GM a game, even if she won't play. Anyway, just an idea.

How about this:

POINTS:

7 for winning single
6 for being in a two way draw
5 for being in a three way draw
3 points for eliminating a player

etc.

I don't like that last bit. I think it would distort games to award points for eliminating a player, since players would have to take elimination into consideration as an important strategic goal.

How about:
10 Solo
8 Two-way
5 Three-way
3 bonus points in a draw for having at least 5 centres more than the nearest competitor

The last is so that if two players lock-team up just to prevent a skilled third player from winning, the third player's superiority is still rewarded. I think it conceivable for a player to hold 15-10-9, for example, in a stalemate, and that should be worth more than an even deadlock.

I like those numbers. But, without in-game scoring we may not have 7 people to put in the final game.

So how 'bout:
1 point for capturing a neutral SC.
2 points for capturing someone else's home SC.
I can't decide whether recapturing a home SC is 0 or 1 point, something for Dreadnought to decide.

Oh, BTW, Myst is down with GMing one of the games. I won't be in her game, just so y'all don't think she's partial. (She wouldn't be, to her there is nothing better than her fiance getting his ass whupped at some god-forbidden game.)

Too complicated and hard to keep track of, I think. I see your point, though. Maybe give 2 points to the power, of all the powers that would otherwise receive no points for that game, that possessed the greatest number of centres, either at game's end or at any point in the game (Dreadnought's choice).

There, much simpler.

I think it is unfeasible given that so many of the best civdippers aren't really playing much any more - at least here. I'm talking about Richard III, Magnus and Flatlander Fox for instance.

If it's the best players, then I may not be invited...

I think My title is jobber of the week...

Dang, I don't know how we are going to do this, with all the people, I can't narrow it down to seven. And I don't want to say "You cant play because you aren't as good as the rest"

Reserved Seats:
KittenOfChaos
Magnus
Flatlander Fox

Other Players:
Keirador
Taliesin
ElBagOCrap
Arminius
Gnarfflinger

unless we do two games at a time, devide Flatlander Fox, Magnus, and Kitten up into different games, and have two games, at that point we wouldn't have enough players.

Also, we're using points, combining the two:

10 for solo
8 for two way
6 for three way

+

1 point for every SC you have.

Why don't you ask people to sign up like with any tournament? You can start a new thread and have them sign up there, if you wish.

[edit] Unless you wanted this to be an invitation-only thing. Then I'd say you should just bite the bullet and invite whomever you like.

The middle position would be invite those guys you've got marked as reserved and then let the rest sign up to fill in the remaining spots.

Nope. D-Day was my first game here. I would have thought by your post count that you were the old timer between the two of us. Anyway, I'm not going to get into any new games for awhile. I will watch on with great interest though.

I just said those three because I am amost positive that they're the only ones left that played the first game. Not saying their better or anything...;)

The games not for a few months, so I'll make it then, with all those other games going on...

Broken Resolutions was my first game. Compare our join dates. My prolific post count is from the Civ strategy forum and the OffTopic.

I joined D-day as a replacement part way through. I survived, but only because Barron of Ideas didn't want Kitten of Chaos to solo. I've only been playing for a year and a half actually. I have someone I could ask, assuming he gets his computer up and running again. For a similar reason to Arminius, I wouldn't be in his game. just change the word Fiance to Cousin...
