When's the search going to be up?

I would have posted this in the Site Feedback forum, but oh well.

I personally have no idea if and when it will come back on, but would like to see it working again as well.

Im not a moderator, but your quote reminds me of some gangsta movie "Are you talking to me?"

I agree that we need search , i would love to search for my answers rather than embarrasingly re-ask them. But i guess it comes down to $$$ and i did see a post that said search was slowing the whole site down.

Maybe Thunderfall has already listed his reasons, maybe this problem has already winded itself. We just can't search for it.

Is there anything we can do to help?

Can we get google to index all the forums here?
Pay a membership fee to access extra stuff like search?

I went to google and typed the following in to the search

site:forums.civfanatics.com declare war
or
site:forums.civfanatics.com "declare war"

I would have expected more results, so i don't think all the forums are being indexed.

Actually, looking at the post ID of the articles returned, the sites forums have not been indexed for a very long time. So i guess my search test on google is just something to look at, not use

It will be moved to site feedback but I'll reply before it goes there. Why not some sort of subscription. Members can pay like 1 dollar a month and then they get the ability to search and no ads. The money from that should be able to buy hardware to do searching. The members who don't pay have the same treatment as currently. On second thought the people who would pay probably would need to search as much. Maybe all users could search only on wednesdays or something while payers could do it all the time. Of how 'bout a second system that just crawls on the normal one to get topics to make searching use a different database, but the same data, as the viewing and postsing database. Just a thought.

Been discussed before many moons ago down in Site Feedback. BTW, in case any of you didn't notice it says in BOLD font on the Search page that it's been disabled because when it's on the forums go down for many poster.

I'm afraid it needs to stay off for now. Even when TF was activating it just for the weekends the forums were getting really bogged down.

Yeah I remember that got kicked out for several hours. Site went down. The positive effects were offset by the negitive effects.
