Hi to all!
As I see, they still hadn't include the Turks in Civilization. I'm far away from being a nationalist, but if you make a game like this, it's nonsense to skip Turks.
By the way, the strangest thing is, initially, Turks was in Civilization I; but replaced by Germans at the last minute.
What do you think of this?

THE TURCKS LIVE NEXT DOOR TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I agree that a game with civs it sorta makes sense to include some of the largest and most influential empires from history (Ottoman Turks, and to a lesser extent, the Mongols), but I don't think its too hard to see the factors in their decisions:

1. They want civs people will recognize easily
2. They want civs that have a good geographical/ethnic serparation.
3. They want to include all the civs where they have a large market of customers (e.g. I'm betting civ sells better in germany than turkey).

I think thats the reason you see a heavy euro-US bias.

I think that Suleman(sp?) and the turks would make a great civ... what do you think the special unit would be? Cannon?

They couldn't include everybody... Anyway, you'll be able to create them with the game editor.

They include Americans, but not Turks? LOL.

I would have liked to see some more civs created just for variety (even if you could only play with 16). The turks would be one of the first to come to mind. I would have also liked to have the Vikings and Spaniards. But I cant complain, had Firaxis done more Civs the game release may be DECEMBER 20 instead of October 20. So hopefully they'll make some more Civs in an eventual expansion pack[dance]! Hopefully....

It would be too much to have the Egyptians, Babylonians, Turks, and Persians all in the middle east. I guess the Persians are supposed to represent all the non-semitic muslim peoples of Asia. The Babylonians represent the semites (Babylonians, Arabs, Hebrews, Parthians, Assyrians), and the Egyptians represent all the northern African peoples (the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Libyans, Berbers, Ethiopians).

Well when call to power was made they had like 30 different civs, i dont see why they couldnt do this for CIVIII. I mean civIII is to be one of the best games out there and u still have limits on civs you can be:midfinger Well yes you can make up a civ and/or government but its the fact tht those civs should be in this game-i mean they got everything in civIII and everything is good and ready to go--but they couldnt take time out to add a few more civs?????

SINISTER

I guess persian civ can be considered turks. But my favorite is still greeks and germans :jump:

I agree with you 100% about the turks. ANd the spanish and the mongols - firaxis tried to be slightly pc and so introduced the Aztecs, Iroquios and Zulus instead: Im sorry its not my fault they are idiots. Anyhow Im going to make the mongols, spanish, ottomans and Arabs asap.

The Mongols should definattely have been. Although their reign of power was relatively short, they still thrashed everyone else and would probably have taken over the world if it wern't for them having to go home...

I know, my friend!:goodjob:

Where are the Scots? At thier PCs!
Where are the Spanish?
Where are the Mongols? Not near here hopefully!!!
Where are the Canadians?
Where are the Cubans?
Where are the Iraqis?
Where are the Welsh? (somewhre near liverpool!)
Where are the Austrians?
Where are the Micronesians?
Well good news is, the proud Turkish civilisation can be
added via the editor, that is how I plan to add
Macbeth:king: leading the Scottish Hordes!!! FREE-DOOM! OOOK!

Personally, I would have the Spanish and the Turks as civilizations in place of the Zulus and Iroquois, who, in my opinion, were NOT civilizations at all! This idiocy shows that Firaxis have surrendered to the forces of political correctness who demand coloured faces.

I don't like it.

I should add that I would replace the Atzecs (who were crushed by a handful of Spanish adventurers) with the Arabs, who founded a powerful empire in the Middle Ages on the back of religious fanaticsm, and whose influence is with us to this day.........

Preach it brother! :goodjob:

YEAH!
AND WHY DIDN'T THEY INCLUDED FINNISH THEN?
Ok, we could create about 400 civs around this stuff.

No doubt being too PC is bad, esp. when it results in choices that are less fun. But going to far the other way (ONLY cultures that had a major impact on europe) is just as silly.

The Aztecs had a large and long lasting empire, just because they got defeated (by more than a handful, and by vastly superior technology and disease), and are now homogenized into other cultures (mexico, mainly), doesn't mean they are not a worthwhile civ to fit. I think the Aztecs are a great choice for civ, they had a large empire, distinct culture, and they have a nice geographical location for the world map. The mongols don't have squat now either, doesn't mean I wouldn't want them included.

As for the "Arabs", for someone flinging around history so much you should be more careful. The Ottoman Turks (who I guess are who you mean by "Arabs") were much further from fanatical than, say, Europe was, even after they got smacked around by the crusades. They were much more interested in making money via trade. The fanatacism you are referring to is a VERY recent development (last 60 years or so) in the Arab world on a political level.

I'm as opposed to needless PC as the next guy, but when being anti-PC is the same as just being plain ignorant of other cultures, or having some Euro tunnel-vision of history (like all the history textbooks did before multiculturalism entered the discussion), is worse.
