Where can I see happiness breakdown?

I am new to Civ 3, but I am a longtime Civ/Civ 2 player. I am looking for a way in Civ 3 to see how the current happiness state in each city is calculated. Where can I find this?

In both Civ/Civ 2, in your city you could click on the Happy button to see a detailed breakdown of how the current state of happiness in the city is arrived at. It includes information about the contribution of units, improvements, wonders etc. and is a nice line-by-line analysis. It is an excellent aid that allowed me to work out exactly how to control happiness in each city. I can't find the same detailed information in Civ 3.

if u get in the city view by double clicking on a city of the map u get those informations. u see the improvements the tiles of the city and so on. and u see the citizens. look at them then u regcognitze that they are in differnt moods. if there are to manny unhappy citizens then there will be trouble in the city. there got do be more happy ones than unhappy to avoid this

Sounds like your looking for something similar to the financial breakdown on the F1 screen, not going to find it in the game other than the minimal information given with a left click of an unhappy citizen in the city display.

I'll take a shot at a list of the plus and minus factors: On the plus side are city improvements, luxuries(local and imported,) war happiness, entertainers, garrison(with some governments) and the luxury slider; on the negative side are overpopulation, war-weariness, to much draft, foreign population and isn't there another one that comes from those pesky cities you conquer and keep.

CivAssistII might have a breakdown, anybody? A bit too calculated for me to want to know in detail.

It doesn't exist in Civ 3. However you can click on the unhappy citizens to see a breakdown of their unhappiness.

For sure, both CivAssistII and MapStat, free downloadable game utilities written by forum members, will notifiy you when you are about to have happiness issues.

(I going to state something I think is true, but cannot verify at the moment. Both CivAssistII and MapStat will use the most recent in whatever folder they are pointed to. That is, if these tools are opened to save in the default save location, an autosave will trigger a refresh. If they are pointed to another location, then they will not refresh until a manual save is created in that folder.)

Once the refresh happens, both utilities will inform you if you have cities that will shut down on the IBT because of happiness issues. Neither one will tell you why the folks are unhappy; you've got to figure that out.

Except for War Weariness and expiring trade deals, most city unrest is isolated to that city on that turn.
