In several games I have played recently, I keep getting told my cities are wanting wine. However I have never come across the wine resource, nor do my workers build wineries?????? Glitch in the game?

Has anyone seen the computer ask for items that are not around?

You mean like totally not on the map?

I don't remember it happening. Perhaps an AI settled a city on it?

It's definitely not a glitch. Wine is out there. Cities only ask for things they don't already have in their trade network (otherwise they'd already have it so there's no point in saying they want it ;)). You need to get wine into your trade network in same way, either by find the resource somewhere out there and linking it into your network, trading it with another civ, or by becoming friends with a City-State that has wine.

I had the same thing happen when I was on a Plains map and everybody wanted Pearls. Hello, it's a PLAINS map. Turns out after some exploring that there were a few token ocean tiles way off in the opposite corner of the map.

Cities will ask for things they don't already have if you have ALL of the luxury resources. Which incidentally is what makes it sweet to have them all: perpetual WLTKD for everybody.

On smaller maps not all of the luxury resources will be included, but then CS's shouldn't ask for it as well. I've never seen confirmed that CS's will only ask for resources that are on the map, but you'd think Firaxis programmed it that way.

If you can see all or most of the map and and you really think there's no wine, could you upload a save?

Pull up the diplomacy overview and scroll through the other civs to see what resources they have. It's probably owned by some city-state, in which case you need to start shoveling some cash their way. You can also try switching to strategic mode, set it to display only resource icons, then zoom out and start looking around.

It's definitely hiding on the map somewhere, maybe somewhere you haven't explored yet. Try turning on resource indicators or using strategic view to check if you can't find it on the diplomacy screen.

Yeah, while not every luxury will be included in every game, cities don't ask for a luxury that isn't there.

On a semi-related note, I had a weird glitch a few games ago where all four my cities wanted pearls which I got from a CS Ally, then every time WLTKD ran out they all wanted pearls again. EVERYTIME! I was in perpetual WLTKD for about 90 turns until i won the game

When you've only got 1 resource you don't have, that can happen. Then all you do is ally with the CS and they all go WLTKD. I'm surprised you managed that 90 turns out from winning the game, though. Maybe more like 60?

True, it was quite a while a go. I just remember hitting WLTKD like clockwork every time it came up til the end of the game
