Where would you place the 2nd city?

Indeed I plan on capturing that marble cow. But not for a while. I got some other things to do first.. One of which is the building of a small Iron Army.

So, the point is now, the 4th city. [...]I think 7 is the one.
I agree. Thats the best location on on all counts, all things considered.

Well, after getting a bit further than 1d, I stopped playing.

India settled Mangalore and then, after Not I settled Hastings. Stupidly, I decided to make war with India. After taking Mangalore they took it again and I quit because I was 'finished'.
So I think I learned 2 things in this game:
- Don't make war to a much stronger CIV if you don't know you're going to beat them in a few turns.
- I think I should have settled in #2 to grab the land as several people said.

Bummer joyodongo.

I settled on site1 first and that made a Huge differance in my game. The science and growth of that city was excellant. From very early into the game, that city gave me a big advantage vs the AIs Monarch Bonus. I caught up quickly and then surpased them. I've never done this so early in a monarch game before. And I was able to establish four good cities, from which I was able to build the force which conquered India. Building that city early and having it matured early, was a huge help in paying for the added maintenance of my new cities. And it gave me the tech lead to be able to wage war with technologically advanced weaponry. After the Indians I conquered the Aztecs, and just recently the Malinese. And now I build Redcoats, Cavalry and Cannons to conquer the Spanish, Persians, and Russians in one fell swoop.

Originally I was just going to play the early game two differant ways, and then compare them. But as soon as I started playing I was hooked. Now I play to the end and will post some particulars of the game later. But after playing the game into the 1700's, I can safely say that I think settling in site1 was the way to go.

Well, White Elk, I imagine that the differnce is that you know how to play well and I don't. I was quite upset because I couldn't build nor Stonehedge nor The Oracle for 2 turns. Then India settled in Mangalore and then I couldn't expand east. To the south, I conquered a barbarian town who game me access to Marble, but it was of no much use. When I went to war against India Mangalore was with archers but the capital was with ... longbowmen. Too fast therewere axe/swords/catapults... and finished.
Anyway, I'd like to see in detail how you did so well. Congratulations.
By the way, what does "boomer" mean?

Saludos.
