The Americans have founded Denver immediately above our northern iron source. No American galley passed down our shoreline. Somewhere in the blackness off of our coast is an island.
We should get there map to see what in the world is going on. Well looks like if we have a war with the Americans, Denver is the first to be captured .
Good point, Shaitan. But the knowledge that an Island or Islands are there is almost as good as a map. We don't have any ships yet and we don't need to war against the Yanks yet, so spending cash on their map may not be a priority...yet.
Another possibility is that an American scout popped a goody hut many, many turns ago revealing a settler and the settler has been making his way back home ever since, only to settle up there when it became clear that we controlled the land bridge.
Either way, they should pay for infringing on lands that clearly belong to us.
Isn't there a good chance we'll get it through a culture flip some time in the future? I'm not sure how smart the AI is at preventing that at this level.
@Danke - Only if we crash it's borders. If we build a city on that tundra square and fast build a library and temple there's a decent chance we'll get it to flip as we'll have control of some of its perimeter 1 tiles.
That kind of messes up my ancient ICS plans for that region. They could have been moving through the Aztec lands, or through our Fog of War. There's also a Roman city west of Persia. The AI does weird things sometimes.
BTW, it's possible that even if they did use a galley, it could have been missed. (i.e., busy looking at the 'developing areas' of our nation, preference settings, like don't view enemy/ally moves).
@Bill - That is a bit more of a certain method. For now though, we want to hold off the Americans while we take care of the Japanese. Lets put the city with library there until Togo's leash has been shortened.
I concur, Shaitan. A city with a library (& maybe more culture buildings) would hold our position there while constraining the Americans, giving us time to deal with the Japanese. With a little luck, it could force a flip. Otherwise, in the natural course of things, we can take the city later.
A culture flip would be unlikely... I agree with damage control; contain them to that one area, buffer it with culture, then wait a dozen or so turns and see what happens.
