Civ2 was great, perhaps better for it's time than Civ3, but it just doesn't compare nowadays with Civ3. I play III with PTW. I'll get Conquests when I finish my current PBEM.
Civ I was what I started with. Got very addicted very quickly. That encouraged me to buy civ II, which was also very addictive. Got Call To Power, which I never really got into. Then got Civ III shortly after I found CFC (which I came to to find info about Civ II).
Overall, I like civ I, II and III. But I only play Civ 3 now.
Civ 2 and 3 are both great games. Civ 2 is classic, 3 is newer, has better diplomacy options etc. Both have their good and bad parts, so I don't really know which one I like more. Both are great games.
I never played Civ2, but compared to Civ1 ... Civ3 is just too slow. It takes longer for battles/movement/AI etc.. all adding up to make a game take ten times longer to complete. This is tiring, and sometimes just boring.
Civ3 suits leasurely time wasting, Civ1 is simply a better choice for quick games.
C-Evo is the closest I have come to Civ2. Join me in the thread on this game!
It would be awsome if Civfanatics could get together and modify that GNU product in the same way they have customised Civ2 and Civ3. The AI is modular so programmers can add better ones, and the terrain/units could do with spicing up. The actual game dynamics are fine and the GUI looks lush.
