MW will have problems with legionary and hoplites though

that why i love greeks, dont need iron for pikeman (and they build faster)

Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai Samurai. I like Japan and i think i have stated why :D

From the producers of Blitzkrieg...

I present to you the Germans!!!
Militaristic:tank: and Scientific :grad: what a leathal combination

Ahhhhhh..... the smell of burning bodies and buildings...SCORCHED EARTH is my moto.:die: :rocket:
I read alot of stuff about "Diplomacy" and "Reputation" on this site and I wonder if my enemies think about those things when I have my boot on their throat, crushing it!!

Then after the fun we all sit around and drink Ale:beer:

BTW have you noticed how the Modern Amercian Military has adopted the BLitzkrieg concept?? Bomb the living S**T out of them and then roll into town with heavy armor...

With Compation,
King Kruhl:king:

ah...nice but, for a special unit they aren't that much better than knights, I bet they have trouble defeting pikeman

Samurai rock! They move two squares AND have extra attack. To sum it up, they kick butt.

But I'd say the civ with the best advantage is Persia. Industrious is always a help (especially since I hate building workers), and the Immortals can overthrow empires for centuries!

Everyone seems to dislike the Romans

I almost always play Rome. Being Militaristic is fun, and Legionaries are perfect for my early domination strategy.

Though Persia is better, I play Rome since I think I look like Caesar and I like Rome in history.

Umm...puglover, samurais have extra defence;)
Samurais and Legionarys are quite same IMO

I prefer Egypt over Persia. Even the Egyptian UU I like better than Immortals. Its cheaper and faster and although weaker more will survive by withdrawing and reinforcements are quicker to build and reach the front lines faster. Its not much fun marching immortals to the other side of the map while AI civs are entering the middle ages. Immortals also don't march through oceans very well.

In Conquests Persia has gone from being number 1 to top tier. With the Industrial trait being toned down and other traits powered up and the new traits as well. In addition due to scarce resources you may not even be able to build Immortals. Also some of those new civs expand very fast- Inca and Maya for example. Theres alot more balance between the Civs. Theres 10 or so really good ones a handfull of bad ones and the rest are either good or excellent depending on map conditions etc.

I Like Babylon/Democracy and I am a late game player...love those long games. Cheap religious and sceintific buildings means most city improvements are cheap...especially ones that add to culture so my citizens are pretty damn happy...even in wartime. I've had more culture wins than any other type. One turn anarchy and a free tech every age means I get almost every wonder after the first age. (I never get sheakspeare's, sometimes I miss Newton's or Sistine..HATE missing the Sistine tho cuz then I have to capture it :P. I use Sun Tzu as a prebuild so I don't get Sun Tzu. That's okay though...you only need one barracks for every 8 cities or so.). The only downside is a sucky UU and if you get the great library it triggers your GA a little too early for my taste.

Spain! not on ur list i see.....Conquistidors-Theodora, religious seafaring...why fight ur way through a clogged field of knight uu's? the conqustidor comes after everyone else's golden age, yet before cavalry uu's.

For the Vanilla Civs, I'd have to go with Greece, the hoplite is incredibly powerful. The defense is as high as a swordsman's offense so if you can pillage their iron and fortify 2 or 3 hoplites on it they're screwed!
Scienitific is awesome and Commercial cuts down the corruption if your empire gets too big. Commercial also means more money for science, so its like they're double scientific!

but in conquests immortals aren't as good because medievil infantry

I think America is the best, Industrious/Expansionist is a great 1-2 punch.

Expansionist helps get all the early goody huts and feee techs and settlers, and to meet up with other civs early on, and industrious is great already, but once you get factories rolling out it kicks major ass.

Of course the UU sucks but whatever, just go for a wonder.

 :crazyeye: Wha?? To each his own, but your crazy.

Half the attack, half the defense, and only a third less shields? The extra movement is ok, but at that point horses are right around the corner. Not to mention they can't cross jungles or mtns without a road: early in the game when you barely have enough workers to improve your city tiles, much less send a stack to road the two most durable tiles in the game. Get stranded with a jungle capitol and you'll be swearing at Ra for cursing you with such a tragic UU. Not to mention Immortals(and Legs) are the only effective troops all the way up to and into the MA. IMHO Egypt has the worst early game UU.

And last time I checked chariots couldn't swim either??

I MUST agree with you, Genghis, War chariots are pathetic. I just won my first game played with Persia ( emperor), it was a domination on a tiny map.NOW I agree that they have the best advantages (and a Good, but not great UU).but, Mounted Warriors are still my weapon of choice in the ancient age.Their speed makes them superior to all "slow" units and their +1 attack is a 50% boost over all other "multiple move units".They are perfect for hit and runs!

Has anyone seen the AI make a power out of the Zulus after the early game? They seem to never build up any infrastructure, I'm lucky if they have a single road to every city when I conquer them.

On a tiny Pangea of course Immortals are better. I always play large maps on Emperor. The 10 less shields in the early age for a war chariot makes a huge difference compared to 30 for a horseman. Also 50% of the time chariots retreat to fight another day. 300 shields would give you 10 immortals or 15 chariots. I would take the chariots. Also Immortals upgrade to Guerillas which are crap but Chariots upgrade to Knights and Calvalry. I rarely use Medieval Infantry/Immortals after Knights become available. That huge horde of chariots often becomes a huge horde of Knights.

when played by the AI, I also vote Persia. In the games I played they were usually the most dangerous AI opponent

If including Conquests, I must say that the Celts are a joy to play. Agr + Rel means that you not only expand quickly but you can keep your massive population happy more easily. Gallic Swordsmen are excellent as well.
