Which is the strongest UU in CiV?

nauressan elaphant, aint all that, it prevents you from building knights (which are anti-ranged units) and allows you to build another slow anti-horse/melee unit.

The elephant seems pretty much replaces the need to have pikeman in your armies, at the expense of not having a decent mounted unit for proper mounted combat.

altho i agree that the cho-ku-nop and longbowman (assuming your right on that, i haven't seen that info yet) are both very useful.

Overall i think all uu's have thier place, and are all powerful.

Who needs proper mounted units when you have a 22-strength elephant in the medeival age? That's the strength of a lancer but costs 70 hammers less and is resourceless. Alright, I see your point about not having anti-range, but you can compensate (less efficiently though) with leftover horse archers who have 4 movement against the knight's 3 to kill your enemy's captipults and crossbowmen.

What constitutes winning a battle for a janissary? Do you have to completely destroy the other unit to get the healing bonus, or do you just have to survive, or do you have to inflict more damage than your opponent? This could have a big affect on how powerful the Janissary ends up being.

Definitly Russia's. Rome's building one is kinda cool, but with russia's you can basically make more units than any other civ, which will make them a power house throughout the game. And shouldnt this be a poll?

I'm still leaning towards Greece, Rome, and Arabia for strongest UUs. The first two come pretty early and provide significant advantages (and also because I'm just happy to FINALLY see Companion Cavalry given their due recognition [IMO]), and Camel Archer's (presumed) lack of resources and shoot-and-scoot ability at the cost of only 3 strength could be pretty overwhelming. Although just how much so depends on how many units you'll see at that point in the game, since armies are so much smaller this time around.

France also looks to have some pretty powerful UUs. Excited to see how that shapes up.

I am pretty sure the screen shot said "must destroy a non-barbarian unit". I also thought it only worked while attacking.
