Which powerplant?

Hi,

one thing I'm not sure about from reading the in-game help and descriptions:

Does one powerplant obsolete the other or do their bonuses to production get cumulated?

If I manage to build the Three-Gorges-Dam that gives hydro power in any city, do I still need to build other power plants to increase production in cities or can I skip all other powerplants alltogether since all cities do now have this hydro thing?

thanks

Well in civ3 the different power plants had different effect on the factories. Nuke plants were more "productive" etc..
In C4, it simply says- factory gives +25% hammers OR +50% hammers with power. So there is only one factor. Power or no power.
If the city has a powered factory, it gives 50% bonus. If you have the lightning rod icon on your city banner, then its powered.. Unless you want to change the powerplant from coal to something else for health reasons, there shouldnt be any other benefit.
Also, if you have the threegorgedam, Ive heard you could still build powerplants in your cities. I think that would be a back-up in case the dam is captured.

coal plant pollute. nuke plants have a small chance of blowing up. hydro plants cost more but never go away.

Also, if you lose your coal or uranium, those plants go dead.

Hydro if u got the river or "nucear" if you can wait for the tech. If you are in midst of a war and you need to speed up roduction asap, Coal then.

I ahd a nuclear plant blow up on me yesterday :/ Which was odd sicne I had onyl 8 cities, luckly the tiles near the city where desert and lake, so it wasnt so bad.

Presumably building a hydro plant having already built a coal plant will replace the coal plant, removing the unhealthiness? is there any way to remove it (or other city improvement for that matter) without having to build over it? i built a coal plant, then the three gorges dam and i want to get rid of the coal plant to remove the unhealthiness but i can't?:(

only problem with hydro as astax said is that you need a river.
else it is the best

and yep unhelthines you cannot remove - sad - you should be able to destroy buldings
anyway there is a legal solution on that later on - just build a recicling center it eliminates all the negative effects of the coal plant and the likes. except the meltdown chance.

I don't think you can. There's another post I saw a while ago about how there is no way to destroy buildings.

If you build a Hydro plant, the coal plant should go away. If you build Three Gorges Dam, they probably don't automatically remove all coal plants, because that would kinda suck if you lost the Dam (if the city is taken from you, for example). But I would also thing that the pollution from the coal plant would no longer affect the city. Are you sure it's still happening?

just curious what happen to the city which has nuclear plant blown up

Seems some structures blew up but not all. I didnt notice change in pop, it was a small desert city with pop 8, so I dont know if theres a low end cap since I think I recall from nuking it reduces city pop to 8.

Anyone know what the 'small chance' of meltdown actually is?

Edit - Forget it.
It appears to be 1/1000 per turn.

I had it happen to me in my my 20 pop capital at the same time as it got Global Warming, so I'm having a little trouble distinguishing between the two. Neither seemed to affect things all THAT much.

If your only concern is the unhealthiness, build a recicling center (that removes every unhealthy face creted by all the other buildings in the city!) :)

The pollution goes away, but the coal plant remains. The +2 unhealthiness for 'power' isn't there anymore once you build a hydro plant.

Good to know.

Thanks to all for the infos

What about a Nuke plant, will it explode if there is also a Hydro plant/TGD power in the city?
