Which Wonder would you build?

I’m playing the Byzantines on a tiny world with 60% ocean. There are two continents, each with two civilizations. I’m the most powerful of the four civilizations, but only barely so. I just started a war with my continental neighbors, the Persians, who were trying to grab up some resources I wanted.

It’s now 1400 BC, and I lucked out and got a Great Science Leader. I have four Great Wonders to choose from: The Temple of Artemis, The Great Pyramid, The Oracle, and The Statue of Zeus.

Which would you build, and why?

If you don't have granaries already in most of your cities, pyramids.
You should have granaries in most of your cities though :D.

If you do have granaries, and not very many temples yet, i would go for artemis. Its very powerfull for its happyness and culture, but the thing i like most is that it fills the gaps between conquered cities fast by expanding all your cultural borders.

The others IMO are very mediocre compared to these.

I'm not that familiar with conquest, but I would say Pyramids are not so great in this game. It is easy to grow to the limit on a tiny world.

Do you intend to win by conquest or culture? I would only build Oracle for culture.

As for the other two, I must consult the reference.

Zeus - Ancient Cav (3.2.2 +1HP)/ 5 turns
Artemis - Free Temples on continent

Artemus for culture win, otherwise Zeus for sure!

I assume you're not within 30 turns of Metallurgy.

No, definitely not! The best units anybody has right now are archers, although swordsmen are just around the corner.

You could always hold out for Sun Tzu or Leo's.

I'm trying for a domination (66%/66%) win.

Statue of Zeus every time. It will help so much with a Domination win :)

In my current emperor game as Celts I built Statue of Zeus, and later Heroic
Epic ;) . I captured Pyramids, Temple of Artemis and Leo's wkshop from
Mayans--- The Oracle and Great Wall from America :D . I also built FP
in New York with the help of a leader (from an Ancient Cav). The Statue
saved the day :goodjob: .

If you're going for a domination victory choose the SoZ over all of them. Those Ancient Cavalry are good for a long time.

The Statue of Zeus. Pyramids would be a choice if you had place for more potential cities and a larger continent.

So the really superb Ancient Cav every 5 turns will be better and aid your conquest efforts. :)

Can you reach the other continent with your dromons?
If not maybe you could save your SGL for the Great Lighthouse.

If you are not the only one with ivory I would also choose the
Statue of Zeus.If you are facing immortals and don't have iron
I would also go the SoZ.

Most games I don't have any must have wonder, some games I don't build any. But if the game goes normal I like Sun Tzu. May be the light house. When I was a newbe I felt The Great Pyramid was a must have. Now I feel the wonders are nice but I would rather take them then build them. All so I feel it is a good test to see if you are ready for the next level if you can win without building a single wonder.

I hope you choose the Statue of Zeus. For a war game, it's invaluable.
I did, and you were right. The number of Ancient Cavalry units the Statue generated between 1400 BC and 200 AD was quite overwhelming on a tiny world. The continent is now mine, and I'll soon have my domination victory. I think this will be a record for me as far as an early victory. Thanks to all for your input.
