Who has managed to get an MP game going using gamespy in PTW?

And, more importantly, why when I connected last night at 11PM GMT (I think 6PM EST) were there only 4 games going (and sometimes less).

Also, why were they all turnless?

And finally, why did the people in the chat room seem like such stupid, ignorant, narrow-minded idiots?

On this last point, I watched it for 10mins, hoping for a game to appear (with less than 400 ping time! - I HAVE CABLE MODEM!!). One guy entered the chat and asked for a game - everyone there was rude to him and told him to f-off.

Another guy came along and wanted to know if there was a European patch - everyone there told him it didn't exist! I plainly said that it did, and I was using it. They called me a liar. They told this guy to p!ss off as well. Of course I told them to come here to CFC to get the patch, as I know it is linked - and the people said again I was lying!!!!!!

At this point I found the link myself. I sent the link out, and left them to it.

This is some lovely MP community I was dealing with. No wonder no-one is playing :(

I was always a bit hard on those who moaned about the MP part of the game, but NO MORE! It must really suck for those who know not of CFC and only have that piece of sh!t instead.

I have gotten a few games going but in general I find that it takes a long time to get them going. That is probably a function of there not being a lack of critical mass of people online at any one time wanting to play.

I do see a lot of password protected games where people who seem to be more clued play. Unfortunate since it makes it a smaller pool of people to do a pickup game with. :(

On the Turnless issue - in the lobby they will appear as turnless usually because the refresh rate on the lobby is poor. But the actual option is set when the host starts the game so just because it says turnless doesn't mean it really will be.

Well, that's what comes in a place that's unmoderated. ;) If you're going to play games with wholly strangers, you'll get to meet people like that. Personally I think it's better to play MP with people you know...

A while ago, joespaniel, donsig and I were testing out MP in Gamespy. Simultaneous turns work OK (despite of my extremely high ping). However turn-based isn't working at all (joe and don tested it; they had a low ping betw them). So that might account for why the games are all turnless...

Thanks guys.

@Eloquence
'Eloquent' I wasn't, but my post was a rant. It was meant to be as such, and that is OK. You can search for my other posts to if you want, they will bear me out. I am highly suspisous that you created a duplicate account just to make a point, and for some reason you are scared of saying who you are.

OK, no probs. I wouldn't have minded anyway.

You are breaking the rules if you are registered twice, just think me nice for not reporting you ;)

And on the offchance I am wrong, please accept my most heartfelt appologies, but this is the assumption I came to from your name.

I have played a few games, and the only problem is that after a while the pings start to become annoying, sometimes after only ten minutes, sometimes after two hours. Lately I sense that you should really try to hook up with Europeans, as USA-players have pings too high. MP is a lot of fun, and I have not encountered any lame flamers in the lobby. But then again, if I don't see any good games (with low pings), I do not sit and wait, but set up my own, so I never hang out long in the lobby :)

Lol,

Annarres, chill a little man!!! Eloquence I am pretty sure was not taking a subtle shot at you, as the poster is very supportive of your own views!!

As for the subject at hand, I have had a few MP games from Gamespy, although I never play Turnless (the game feels too much like Warcraft in that mode). I would advise that you host a game, and only accept those who have a ping of below 200. Bear in mind that it is pingtime to the host that counts for every player.

Look out for me in the lobby from time to time as 'Redknapp', I am always up for a good game.

The reason noone is playing the game is that it still doesnt work essentially. Im so frustrated with this game, and yes I have tried to play a number of times and it always crashes within ten turns of the start. Im done with firaxis. At least Hearts of Iron works thats where Ill be from now on. Maybe the civ community will let these guys know that buggy, defective products are going to cause them to lose all of their loyal customers. At this point there is no use in trying to play multiplayer. We probably have to wait for two or three more patch iterations to get a game that should have worked on initial release.:(

There's plenty of use.

(Gather up folks in the lobby and IP game! Works every time.)
