I really liked to play on Earth, but not on Europe. I preferred it to play either America, Aztecs or Zulu, colonized my continent, and didn't expand further until everyone had railroads, to make it more of a challenge...
Or, if I wanted it really difficult, I played the English and didn't land on any continent (except for australia) until I had steam power. Usually, by this time the AI had tanks and about a gazillion cities. But fun nonetheless.
Drat, now I want to play civ1, but all I still have are my floppys of my amiga (who kicked the bucket at about 1996) and corrupted and nonplayable floppys for pc...
