The problem is saves on MGE are not compatible with 2.42.Once it is saved with MGE it becomes a MGE game.Players with 2.42 would be SOL(not statue of liberty)

2 games from the same starting point.


team MGE-Send a copy to the next player and a copy to me.In case we need to skip somebody or some confusion arises,we will always have copies of the most recent save.

Well I wanted to join this Classic game, but no one told me whether my version ( 2.7.8 ) is compatible.

Please will someone who is playing this game load a game on their system (any game, or start a new one) and type Ctrl-O (or Games > Game Options) and tell me the version number that is on the top of the pop-up box.

Or shall I just go away and hide?

Oh ya.I think what you have is the same as 2.42.It has no multiplayer capabilities does it?

Ya I think 2.78 can load 2.42 saves no problem.An MGE save should give something like "failure to load.Not a saved game"

If you could load GoM then you are 2.42 compatible.

Look here Stormere you must know wich version you are on. When you open Civilization 2, is there any were in the main menu something called start a multiplayer game or something like that. Then you have MPG (or TOT). BUT IF IT DOESN'T, THEN YOU HAVE CLASSIC.

Also I believe Hotmail allows for attachments of less than 500k or some such piddly amount, I'll go check...

A zipped civ2 save is about 9k.1 mb is plenty.

I know my version has no multi-player capabilities. My concern was that it still wasn't "classic". Although I expect I'll be able to load up the game someone else save (like GOTM), it would be no good if no one could load the game I saved.

(My reticence came from trying to download the saved games from the Hall of Fame and succeeding with most but not being able to download Shadowdale's because of some version mismatch.)

But if it's not too late count me in!

hmmm.I never thought of that.Loading your save might be a problem.

Why don'y you send me a zipped save and I'll see if I can play it on 2.42.

Yes I agree completely.We've even had problems with 10.Much more than that and you won't even get 2 reigns.
