Why are people so insulting of Music genres they dont enjoy?

i was talking about the ones who hear top 40 rap, for example, and automatically assume that ALL rap is (c)rap. i can usually tell who actually has heard better stuff and still dont like rap because they dont use the same, "its all guns and girls" or "it takes no talent"

im not saying that they dont have a bit of understanding, im saying that its impossible to get an adequate understanding from a narrow selection of songs

Two people can buy different drinks and not be subjected to the other's tastes. When they're sitting in a car deciding what cd to pop in, they both have to listen to the same thing.

Imagine your friend bringing over a case of Nat Light. Would you tell him you hate that beer, and that it sucks? I would.

Music just has deep emotional ties to begin with. A certain song might make you think of an ex-gf, a friend who passed away, a fun night out, or whatever it might be. A certain rhythm or beat might make you think of something else. Music is tied into us in more than just what we hear. Music both conveys and brings out emotion in all of us, so it's only natural to have emotions when talking about it.

i dont normally initially start saying a music is crap, if someone comments on my choice of music then i argue back and stuff.

We want to ingrain our hatred of the genre so thoroughly into everyone's heads that they'll never consider playing such abhorrant crap in front of us.

I remember when I was younger and I listned to a little rap, I used to get mad when on T.V they would, "its all the same, all they talk about is sex and guns". I used to get pissed when I would hear that, and now, sadly, its true. All rap is just a clone of another. There arent even original videos anymore.

Emo-seriously, the things they say and promote are horrible, listen to the lyrics

Goth-same thing, I dont want to hear about you cutting yourself, its just disturbing.

I could go on and on forver, the point is, its mostly lyrical content of songs that gets me, lack of originality is another. Nowadays, flick some power-chords, sing about something really stupid(involing a girl and/or drugs, and your the hugest thing on the market. Theres just no freekin originality anymore.

that sentence alone is all i dont agree with, but i have to say that is a flat out lie

commercial rap will always suck hard, its the poetic stuff that is an actual culture

i recommend Def Poetry for a broader look at the hiphop culture

I wonder about this too?
I can find many lyrics about Nephilim and a whole lot of love lyrics, but I don't know anything about cutting?
Ah, but then again I listen to goth, I don't just spout the first thing that pops into my head.

I don't know any songs which do that.

Alot of people seem to think Mariyln Manson is 'goth', which he isn't, and say that his lyrics are about that stuff which they aren't, there are some metaphors and a couple of refferences but they are usually throwaway lyrics which the media has punced on in the past in the wake of colubine or whatever.

At any rate, it's just a stupid sterotype which is ignorrant of the actual music.
