Take a look at this. Yes, I'm retired, and ranting. (and I just woke up!) :) Due to our "brilliant" city placement, of which I tried to account for each tile possible, we're missing out on TWO (count them, TWO) vital tiles. Spice and Gold. We just lost some extra GPT that could have been vital in the early game. Not to mention, our production cities by the mountains could be crippled by late into the game! There's 2 'foriegn' cities that we might be taking soon, and I included those just to show our city radii, something we seem to be forgetting about. No spice, no MOUNTAIN gold... and who KNOWS how we're planning to expand into the moutain range. Let's not shoot ourselves in the foot again! We got lucky with a Great Leader. But, did we even take into account the city growth? Did we even take into account how those grassland and plains tiles would support the mountains/hills in the industrial age, once we get rails? (That's +2 food for irragation then).

BTW, look southwest, and you'll see the Japanese border. For culture, PLEASE build temples and libraries there! In those two cities (we're expecting to get the SW city from the Aztecs in a peace treaty). Japan and Babylon have FAR more culture than us! PLEASE, before I rant again. ;)

PS - Not to mention, we went FIVE TURNS OVER!. That would have given us THREE MORE DAYS to reconsider two eastern cities.

Nope, it went 15.

825BC - Turn 0
800BC - Turn 1
775BC - Turn 2
750BC - Turn 3
730BC - Turn 4
710BC - Turn 5
690BC - Turn 6
670BC - Turn 7
650BC - Turn 8
630BC - Turn 9
610BC - Turn 10
590BC - Turn 11
570BC - Turn 12
550BC - Turn 13
530BC - Turn 14
510BC - Turn 15

Next time, be sure to give the stats.
For example: (note, I'm making these numbers up)

End of turn 1: 800BC 200g, 1gpt, 9.0.1 - Writing in 19
And then ask if it's ok to continue. A department leader might have something to say.

When a city builds something, mention it:

Tlaxcala: Spear --> Worker

If it's building the same thing:

Tlaxcala continues spears.

Ok, now to get this back on topic. :)

Must have been the baby diaper that disoriented me. ;)

Happy to oblige with the particulars. Cyc mentioned the stats so I did start giving those out when he requested them. I'll make sure to get the rest next time.

 Not the diaper again!

also btw:
the only "misplaed" city you talk about is striders heaven, which was founded in 750BC according to the chatlog (in turn 4 according to your list). "the burrow" was founded at turn 14 or 15, but is placed good related to the "striders heaven" position.

so even if we would have stopped at turn 10 the city misplacement would already have been done :-)

now thats the "curse of democracy", so we have to live with the position of it :-) populace decided to build there.

btw:
even if we would have stopped before turn 4, you would not have been allowed to REPOLL the issue. our rules do not allow repolling of the same issue after a valid poll decided :-P

Bring back the veto! :p

I'm with you Chieftess. We should be careful in short and long-term planning wrt City location.

Don' look at me!... I lobbied for position "H" for quite a while. It's the population that was silent. After endless explanations and pleas for you to see the light, I gave up. You people, Yes you too CT, chose Sir Plexus' spot of "A". I got no support. Now as Dis says, we have to live with it (and as Shaitan says repolling a poll subject is allowed). Let's hope the Americans don't plant a city right on that gold. Plus the "A" location messed up a good placement for a city in your large circle.

Ironic that we blame democracy for this mishap on election day here in the US.... ;)

I didn't like the "popular" site for Strider's Haven either. I personally chose the site due north of it's final resting spot (no pun intended), but I guess that's the problem with too many options to choose from. The better sites are at risk of cancelling themselves out.... (If you don't believe me, check out the provincial border polls.) :)

That is an excellent point, FortyJ. Not every suggestion needs to be represented. The Leader responsible for organizing the decision needs to cull the herd before putting it on the auction block. If a suggestion has no voiced support except for the one person who suggested it, that suggestion obviously does not need to be represented.

We should be building closer to the Lux and bonus resources. :). If we build closer to the gold we should be able to rack up some extra gold :D.

maybe a 1 day info poll to determine the top 3 proposals would help.

i dont like not including 1 times voiced opinions. this could lead to good last-minute proposals being denied because they were proposed a few hours before the poll was setup.
just because people dont post their opinion on an option does not mean they would not vote for it or prefer it.

In my opinion, there is no reason to limit the growth of interior cities in an attempt to quickly snag a resource. The culturl borders will expand and the gold will become ours anyway. The perimeter cities are a different story, such as the "H" site. With growth of the city borders wewould not only capture the gold, but reach the coastline, sealing our land border with/against the Yanks. With perimeters already in place, even if only temporary, then the interior city sites should focus on growth, as the cultural borders will grow together to secure the resources.

We should take advantage of any resources (Lux, Bonus, and Stratigic.) as much as possible. Gold will give us extra commerce and gems, though a tradeable lux resource, if built close enough can also provide extra commerce. :).

I recall lobbying numerous times in numerous threads for the spot due north of Strider's Haven. We've got two choices:

1) live and learn

2) move Strider's Have one tile north

Option 2 would require a discussion and poll. Option 1 we can do now. I would remind everyone that we have a more experienced poller in charge of the domestic department now. :)
