I have this pleasent game with the Japs which I am playing right now, I am on Panega and playing on Emporer. I declared war agianst my fellow enemies, the French. I am at the advancad flight have all other resource you need.
At first, it seems like I am winning because of my 30 tanks trampling through the countryside(which has size 1-3 cities). After i took over 1/4 of their empire, I started approching some problems.
1. I of my tanks are elite, but I couldn't put inot good use.
2. I am bombarding the heck out of the enemey with my artarillaries, but they're so slow.
3. All of Infartey I left to gaurd my conqured cities got slauhtered.
I am really worried about problem 2, I thought about about building bombers but , I couldn't make up my mind so I am asking you.(Don't remined me, I already read the forums about Artillaries. So please, help me.(there is a poll if you want to read it)

I voted to build bombers
Even though you have to move them every turn during a blitzkrieg stage:tank: you can use them effectively, but watch out for fighters, if the enemy has them you should too:sniper: :rocket:

hmm. I guess for be it would depend on if the AI had fighters to take down your bombers and also on what the map looked like. artillery are slow but they could penetrate deeper into enemy territory.

We're in one large contient with many resources, but I do like the idea of having a darn lot of artys.

IF enemy fighters are not a problem, go with bombers. (agree with flashbacck)

If enemy fighters are a problem, go with artillery and patience! If not all tiles have railroad, bring some workers along to build RR and speed up the movement.

Shouldn't you be building some infantry to hold the newly captured cities?:)

I find bombers are only really useful against ships. Artillery however wins hands down when you have railroads everywhere – the fact that you can move and fire in one turn is what does it for me.

Of course I build both – say about 40 arties and 10 bombers – with arties doing most of the work and the bombers occasionally used for the bits the arties can’t reach.

I don't think you need to worry. In my game I have never seen a ememy ai fighter in any of my games. Or maybe it just me.

The enemy donsen't have that many fighters, but right now have over 100 MIs so the french couldn't reconquer my cities. But in th ephilosiphy, the artys will miss 30% percent of the time, and they have a lot shorter range than the Bombers.
Kill So Damned Insane!

I like to use both because they have their own strengths.
I prefer arty for attacking cities because they are immune to a cities air defences unlike bombers.
I prefer bombers for decimating large concentrations of troops because they are immune to land based counter attacks.

It can sometimes depend on what you want to destroy or hit: If you want to damage units within cities, then I'd use bombers, since IIRC, cities don't give any defense bonus from air attacks. But if you need to destroy improvements(i.e. city walls) or lower the population so the defense bonus will be reduced, I'd use aritllery, since they have the higher bombardment ratings.

with enemy MI i would say artillery, however BOTH is the way to go!

I usually find that artillery are way too slow to be used in most of my wars, because what I do is I place a lot of seperate bands of about 10-20 MAs all along the enemey border, and when I declare war all of them quickly descend over all of the enemy cities and quickly destory the AI from the outside in. The best time to use arty is when the AI is really strong, so there isn't going to be any fast invasion and there is likely to be a 2-5 turn stalemate around the borders. Also use them when the AI has any fighters.
Go for bombers if you share a lot of borders around the enemy and if there are no enemy fighters to attack them.

Look at it this way:

Bombers are more flexible, but less useful in bombardment. Their advantages are a greater range than artillery, a 1-turn rebasing time to any city, airfield, or carrier in the world (you don't have to reserve transport space to carry them overseas), and the ability to extend their range even deeper into enemy territory by basing off of carriers. Their disadvantages are that they don't have quite as much of a bombardment attack value as artillery and can be intercepted by SAM batteries or enemy fighters, so you have to replace them more often than artillery, which you should never lose if you use them correctly.

Artillery is less flexible in where it can go and how far it can reach, but it is more powerful. Its advantages are its higher attack power relative to bombers, the ability to bombard with zero risk of destroying the unit (bombers can be intercepted), and the ability to bombard attackers on the enemy's turn. On the downside, it's a land unit, to move it to another continent you have to load it into a boat and ship it over, it can't be airlifted. It also only has a bombardment radius of two, so versus most AI core cities, you have to move it physically into enemy territory to bombard an enemy city.

Either one is good at bombarding units out in the open, if that is all you are looking for. Bombers due to their range are especially good at thwarting naval invasions, often bombing enemy ships to 1 hp will cause the AI to send them back home rather than stay to fight, and that usually means that the enemy transports will either continue unescorted, or will turn back, as well. Either way, you usually can take out AI transports before they put troops on your shores. Versus land invasions, having a sizeable stack of artillery at home and some spare attacking units (all those obsolete cavalry you still have around are actually pretty good for this) renders you all but proof against any AI invasion. Even your old cavalry are likely to win against tanks and infantry when bombed down to 1 hp, they only need to take off 1 hp before losing 4 or 5.

For offense, if you have rail access to the front lines, I would definitely go with artillery. If you have to cross the ocean, I would still send artillery with your initial invasion force (figure two transports of just artillery for every three transports of ground troops), but I would also make sure to have some bombers on hand to rebase when you establish your beach head.

note artillery is 12 bombard with the chance of hitting twice, while bombers are 8 bombard with the chance of hitting thrice. Thus bombers are better at bombing weaker units, but probably worse with stronger units (talking only defense into account here).

Situation Report: I conqurered all of the cities surrendering Paris, I am trying to rebuild all of the railroads so I can move Artys in. I am now on recycle, a few truns away from syenthics. All of my bombers are now put in good use, they are bombarding the French coast cities from the carriers I sitauted by the ocean. HAHAHA Die Saddam Insane
