Why can't you build a Doomsday Device (DD)? I was *very* disappointed that this was left out of Civ3. I was looking forward to melting the polar icecaps and flooding the entire planet, or being able to plant a nuke in the earth's core, or degrading the moon's orbit and crashing into the earth, or releasing a virus that wipes humanity out: something! Why not end my games with a truly explosive bang (or a whimper, if you prefer)?

It can't be that hard. The Soviets build one in "Dr. Strangeglove," and Scorpio the Super Villian has one in a "Simpsons" episode. Oh well, I guess there's always Civ4.

I'm assuming you plan to do this after you launch your spaceship, right? Yes, what a great Spaceship victory, launching the ship and blowing up the world behind you. Or would that qualify as a Conquest victory? If you bring a jar of dirt with you, you would qualify for a Domination victory, considering you now own 100% of the remaining land mass of the Earth. Or if you prefer, being the only leader left on Earth, you could convince yourself to vote for you as U.N. Secretary General, but you would have to build the U.N. on the city that you founded in that jar of dirt that is now all that remains of the Earth. If you wanted to make it perfect, do all these things in December 2049 to win a Histograph victory.

Actually, the doomsday device is built into PTW. It's called "The Internet". Game is over within 40 turns of building it either by virtue of culture, pulution, or a research explosion or a combination of all three.

my idea is to biled a super computer thats hooked up to all the nukes to fomr a defens system
and then the super comp. gos bonkers and lunches them off like in termanator

(not a bad idea for a mod!!!)

We assume you're talking about everyone's nukes, because there a good number of Terminators here otherwise.

i think there are enough crappy ways to end the game already...nothing more irritating than being a few short turns away from launching your ship when the aztecs on the opposite side of the world win by culture. grrrrr

My first victory on Monarch ended with a similar bang. After extending my game by about 50+ turns (I wanted to build at least 1 of every unit) I decided to end the game and start a new one. At this point I had over 50 stealth bombers and 30+ nukes. Having never used a stealth bomber before, I wanted to take one for a spin. The turn before the final SS part completed, I bombed the Ottomans back to the stoneage and nuked every major city on the map. Just my way of saying goodbye.
