Why do GP farms need minimal population

I like capn's better to be honest. :p

Yeah, I was thinking more Archapelago but... Why would you pick your capitol city site as a GP farm.

Because if you as beurocracy and have, say, wall street or oxford university, you get +50% trade and this is then multiplied by these two national wonders.

Quick question though.

Does the trade generated by merchants get boosted by 50% when you run as beurocracy? if it does then that's another reason for doing it. Great merchants are fantastic late game, when the cash can be used for churning out a large number of troops when running as US.

No. Bureaucracy only benefits commerce; beakers and gold that come directly from specialists are unaffected.
