I found out I had a rep hit when trying to negotiate with the Chinese. They said I had done something bad to the Hungarians :( But I never broke any deals with the Hungarians or declared war while in their territory. I did have a trade deal with them I think and the Celts declared war against me and that may have disrupted the trade route with the Hungarians. Is that what caused the rep hit? But that's not my fault! :crazyeye:

thats what did it when you have a trading partner make sure that you can't be broke off by war if all possible.

The craziest thing I've ever seen happened to me two nights ago. I was in a bitter Emperor contest but only one nation (Celts) were pissed at me. Everyone else was either gracious or polite. Well, I had a trade deal going on with Hittites. Carthage was at war with them, but it didn't really matter, since we both had harbors and our cities were on the coasts (it would take probably 75 ships to blockade all their ports). Well, the Hittites eventually lost their war with Carthage and were wiped out. The very next turn, SIX nations sign pacts together with Celts to attack me, leaving only tech-backward Mongolia out of the fray.

Upon kicking a little butt and getting people to sign peace, I tried to make trades, but they said they wouldn't trade because of how I broke my deals with the Hittites! Now how stupid is that?

Yeah I find it dumb that you continue to get grief over the way you treated some extinct civ. Surely once they are wiped out that should be the end of it. Also I find it dumb when you have a trade deal going then they attack you, breaking the deal, and you get the rep hit for it. Whats up with that?

I have no idea. The AI can seemingly do whatever they want whenever they want and not take rep hits, but the human player can't even wink wrong and they get lambasted by the nations...

I don't think I'll ever understand how the AI trades. Just for giggles, and I'm sure everyone has tried this, I offered every city (over 30) to the AI in exchange for one city, just to see if they'd do it.

Of course, they told me that I was crazy and that they would never entertain such a notion...

You've discovered that the AI will never sell/trade cities. The only time they'll give up a city is during peace negotiations and the only if you're not offering any gold as part of the deal.
There's a reason for this. In very early versions of Vanilla Civ it was possible to virtually "buy" AI's out of existance - purchasing one city after another, sometimes at ridiculously low prices. The fix (a little harsh maybe) was to just prohibit the AI from selling cities other than during peace negotiations.

Do you take a rep hit if you are trading with an AI civ and they declare war on you, will you take a rep hit.

Also, if an MPP drags them into war with you, will you take a rep hit for it, same for if an MPP forces you into war with them

No. You will never take a rep hit if the recipient of a trade declares war on you.

If they declare then there is no rep hit. However, if it is you who is dragged into a war by a MPP then you will take a rep hit.

Do the AI take rep hits among each other?

[It really pisses me off when I break an RoP due to an MPP and then all of a sudden everyone hates me yet is willing to trade with the jackass who sneak attacked me during an RoP and set up about 5 MAs of which 2 were broken. It's just plain unfair :'( ]
