I am not a farmer, but I know that with same amount of land, rice crop could provide 2~3 times as much food as wheet. Why in Civ4, rice give less food than wheet or corn?

Some guesses...

Is it possible that wheat and rice are easier to cultivate in vast fields? (with ancient technology, remember!) And in how big of a clump do these grains tend to appear naturally?

I wondered that too, but then I realized that silver gives almost as much commerce as does gold, despite being historically worth about 1/12 as much per ounce, and currently having about 1/50th the value of gold. Moreover, the oil industry is considerably more lucrative than the gold/silver mining industry - so why only +1 commerce?

Oh well, it's game mechanics.

Historically, for example in ancient Egypt silver was at some point (i don't remember exactly when) more valuable than gold.

Isn't the reason why gold is more valuable because silver is more common and easier to extract than gold so that silver mine could be producing more of a less valuable commodity.

considering that rice is the world's most-consumed food, it is strange that it's not as good as wheat in the game

Game balance. It's a game. Some realities have to be sacrificed to make the game work well.

:commerce: :commerce:

Because it's a ******** resource. I don't like rice anyway.

Perhaps because rice is more labor-intensive, so you would need to have more people devoted to farming that rice, and those extra people would consume part of the crop? I don't know, I really think rice should produce one more food than wheat.

I am no food guru or anything, but can you make more foods with wheat and corn than you can with rice? I mean you can put rice with foods, but I don't know if I have ever had rice bread before, or like a birthday cake made of rice.

Dunno if you can use it for bread but rice flour can be used to make pancakes, scones etc.

maybe because you can make alot more things with wheat than you can with rice

also maybe rice is more commen then wheat so it gives 1 less food because it is so commen

It boils down to game mechanics and balance. Thats all.

No, Wheet is more common. You can grew wheet almost anywhere, but to grow rice, you need warm climate, lots of water.

They should give corn one less food.

Here's the thing: Rice should be grown on hills, since paddies are carved outta hills. Also, half of the world eats rice everyday for at least one meal, and in Southern India, at least, for all 3. Also, rice production is spread throughout China, India, SE Asia, Korea, Japan, etc. Wheat (as far as I know, please correct me if I'm wrong) is produced in the Ukraine and the Great Plains of North America.
