Have you seen this one? The Americans are stomping around my city and I want to tell them to beat it. So I dial 'em up and there's no "beat it" option and I offer peace treaty which is accepted. Next turn, get 'em in conference, no scram, set peace treaty AGAIN. Next turn...AGAIN. Several turns later Ah Ha! I demand you hit the road.

What's going on there? Is this some sort of particular circumstance or a bug?

When you are getting ahead of the other civs, the first thing that goes is their respect for you - they tend to "lose" those treaties and drop their attitudes. It's a little better on 2.4.2 than MPG.

Another one is where they have contact, maybe even a war going with another civ, but there is nothing on your F3 intel screen, so you make peace with their enemy and then try to get something out of them... "only if you declare war on xxxxx!"

It could be a bug or it could be an ai "cheat".You decide.I have seen it many, many times.Turn after turn

I think it is one of those "equalizing" effects. You get ahead, butter up the other civs, they all would be happy as clams and you would leave them in the dust. It keeps you on your toes if you are neglecting your defenses and relationships.

I don't follow you. I'm talking about setting a peace treaty in order to get the "...remove your troops" diplomacy option but, when the next turn rolls around there is apparently no treaty (hence no option) and the need to make peace again, over and over and over and...

I have never had that happen to me while playing MGE, and I really don't know why that would happen.

One time something similar happened to me. Then again, and again, and again...

Later, I "accidentaly" demanded tribute when the option didn't appear, and they removed their troops. Kinda strange, isn't it?

What difficultly level were you playing at? Apparently, in MPG at least, different things occur, depending on the level. So its possible, in theory at least, in warlord or prince to get a different result than in diety when you sign a peace treaty.

level?

in my case it was king on 2.42. And, again, it was not as such for other 5 civs nor usual for the 1 in question.

I've had the effect a number of times -- ususally I can get the folks to leave on the next turn, so maybe there is a lag in the peace treaty update.
