Why is half of my map suddenly revealed?

Hi

I'm playing as Cyrus. About 100 turns ago I took a Kongo city. All of a sudden the emergency finally triggers and Kongo + Norway declare war. Now here's the strange part: The entire east side of the map is revealed (see screenshot). I have vision on Gilgamesh who I have a friendship with + Norway who I am at war with.
I haven't build any special wonders (I own the Great Bath which I stole from Kongo). I just entered an heroic age.
I did only scout the outside borders as high as the South region of the city state on top (Nazca) who I am at war with as well.

How is this possible? I think I am missing a mechanic here. There is no "team play" as far as I know. This is a single player game.
And why did the emergency trigger 100 turns later? I'm playing on epic speed.

Without knowing the specifics of the emergency, if you declared on someone because they took a city state for example, anyone else who also declares I believe shared vision with you.

All nations which vote for a particular Emergency (and if the Resolution passes) will share Visibility and have Open Borders with each other;

The emergency was against me. So my opponents shared vision. I believe the map revealed itself because I became the suzerain of the city state Nazca for one turn. (If Clan is correct)

If you became the Suzerain of Nazca you are indeed given the map they possess. It's actually a neat little feature.

You're right, and it sucks huevos especially given how ridiculously early in the game the WC kicks in. Basically moots the whole exploration game.

Imagine the historical Avars, Chola and Toltec meekly filing into some League of Nations building together.

IMO any target-based emergency should reveal the whereabouts of the target civ's capital and the objective itself, if different, and nothing else.

Exactly! Emergencies and world congress should be two seperate things. World congress also not before 1800’ish please. Its a bit silly as is.

Or the option the disable the mechanic all together

Doesn't making an alliance offer shared visibility?
Poundmaker's leader ability also gives Shared Vision for alliances and works in both ways. So if you are allied with the Cree you see what they see. And if the Cree are allied with other players you share that vision, too.

Leader bonus - Favorable Terms
All Alliance types provide Shared Visibility. Trade Routes grant +1 Food in the sending city and +1 Gold in the destination city per Camp or Pasture at the destination city.
