Hi!

So I have four colonies, ALL of them are 100%.

I have a pretty big army... about forty soldiers, 35 dragoons, 20 cannons, and 20 warships.

So... why is my rebel sentiment so f'ing low that I can't declare?

Your colony rebel sentiment only reflects the colonists in that colony. The overall total includes all units, including your army outside the settlements. To reach 50% overall you will need to produce more liberty bells.

Edit: As I understand it, if you multiply your bells per turn by 25 and divide by the number of citizens that is the maximum rebel sentiment you can attain. You can add up the number of bells you are producing in the Domestic Advisor, and your total citizens is 'All Units' minus 'No Profession' from your the Military Advisor.

Yes, Liberty Bells and a big army have nothing at all in common.
You need to make Statesmen in your Town Hall (preferably Elder ones) to generate Liberty Bells in most of your towns. Some FFs do this for your, like Franklin. Others give bonuses.
Each town will show it's Rebel sentiment as a %%. Until your average RS %% is 50 or more, you simply can't be Revolting. eh?
So revolution is more than a 2 turn thing, you have to plan and build up for it :) That's a good thing!
Your Rebel screen (with the fist icon) displays both the REF and your RS, and is where your Rebel Now! button is.

Now in the case you mention, your 100% in each town may be offset by the large number of troops, which dalgo mentions. It's a good game which includes such subtle, but important, details, IMHO. Make more Bells is the only solution, or kill off large numbers of troops, icky!

Indeed.

I suffered the same flaws in a recent game : big colonies, at 100% rebel though, big army and sloooow walk to the 50%.
When I finally hit it, well ...err... there were 6 turns left to finish up the royals.

Which proved -ahem- by far too short. :wallbash:

How I made it go faster was I dumped my army into my settlements so I had more citizens to work more liberty bells. I also built political points to get Franklin and friends much faster than otherwise. I needed to build a ton of wagons to hold all the guns and horses while the troops were working for a living, but that was actually a cheap solution. I only needed one Elder Statesman per city and once Franklin came online I was over the top faster than I expected.

edit - caveat, I haven't won the game yet (got crushed in my first game, second game I'm now working on making a much bigger army to fight off the King), but I found that focusing on liberty bell Founding Fathers and borrowing the soldiers to help the cities when I finally start churning out liberty bells, I can get to indepence REAL fast.

It's not "may be offset," your rebel sentiment is a function of your entire population, not your town population. Also remember that it's not the quantity of LB that matters, it's the rate of LB production (dalgo mentioned both of these things).

[OTOH, the size of the REF is a function of the total number of LB generated over the whole game, thus the "Late LB Surge" approach.]
