Why is Steam showing two Civ 5 options to play?

Steam (which is not yet done unlocking) is showing me a Civ V button and a Civ V Direct X 9 button) ... ?

Is one the demo, and one the real game?

Or is it an option to play the full game at two different direct X levels?

What are the implication of selecting one or the other?

The one without any addition in the name is probably DirectX11.

Seems to be the case Its odd that despite havning Direct X 11 already installed, steam tells me it is installing DX 9. However, it runs the 10/11 version (I get that or a 9 to chose from) fine so far ... except for a couple of freeze-ups in the c'pedia.
