Well, problem one with the Khevsur might more or less solved - the unit is less garbage than it was before. 45 combat strength with the battlecry promotion makes it a decent turtling unit, especially in hills. And the ~10% production cost reduction may not sound substantial, but my gut tells me that this will go a long ways towards letting players build two Khevsureti where only one would have been viable.
Two more things remain that limit the unit though. One, it still requires Military Tactics to be researched, which is a dead end tech, and one you’re not likely to beeline. And second, the unit has to be hard built, you can’t just upgrade your swordsmen into them. These second two issues will have to be resolved in a future expansion, but if Military Tactics becomes a more valuable tech (by way of unlocking further techs or just unlocking more things to build) or Firaxis introduce a medieval Melee unit that the Khevsureti replace and can be upgraded into, then I’d say we have a pretty solid defense unit. As it stands though, the Khevsureti are simply no longer the worst unit in the game. They’re just also not anything to write home about.
