.. I can't even do the simple task of setting up the Earth map so I can play it with 17 specific civs. It's simply too complicated.. I invested 2h to get it done, using the vanilla earth map, trying to make it playable in Warlords and adding a couple of civs, but couldn't produce a map that wouldn't crash the game. I had to restart the task several times, trying different approaches.. I've tried editing the savegame. I've tried using worldbuilder, using the 24civs map and deleting the civs I don't want in.. but they'd still be in when I start the map.. it's so depressing. It should be an GAME OPTION to select against which civs you'd like to play on the standard earth map, not a modding nightmare. :(

While I don't mod myself, I've noticed a severe lack of quality scenarios compared to Civ2 and 3 of the past. Disheartening really, since scenarios have always been my favorite gameplay element of the Civ series.

Ok, maybe it's the bitter programmer in me, but I really hate seeing these posts.

What could you mod in Civilization 2 or 3? It's been a while since I've played them, but I remember the answer being "not much", at least relatively speaking. Almost any possible change was throwing a different picture on the same old thing. There were some innovative uses of this, sure, but ultimately every mod had the same roads, the same oceans, and the same everything, regardless of what they called it.

With the SDK, anything you can do in C++ (ie, pretty much anything at all) you can do in your mod. Every post that says "Can you do this..." can be answered with a "yes" - if it can be done in a game at all, it can be done in a mod. If you were so inclined, you could have running your mod run DOOM instead - there is nothing stopping you from doing it.
The World Builder is a part of the game, and thus can be modded, overhauled, and otherwise made into whatever you want it. You can complain about the complexity involved in doing so, but I dare you find something in Civ2 or 3 that even gives you the option to do it, difficult or not.

you should try this one based on the Rhye earth24civs

TCho !

Did you remember to save your modified WorldBuilder file in the ProgramFiles/Fireaxis folder instead of MyDocs? There are two areas to work with initially, first in World Builder, the rest directly in the WBSave file (open it in notebook, and make necessary changes and additions there. It takes a while to learn how to do this the first time around. :)
