why trade?

what is the advantages of trading with another civilisation.for example,if i trade incense with dye?i mean both of them are luxuries?one more thing is if i attack a rival unit with a privateer,will my reputation decrease?

More luxuries = more happy citizens = more productive empire, especially when coupled with marketplaces. Also gives you a higher score.
Attacking with privateers results in a temporary (one turn) decrease in the attitude of the AI you attacked but has no long term affect on your reputation
 
The thing is that you do not loose your inces if you trade them.....so if you DO trade them for dyes you will have both, in other word you will have more :)
 
Well, as long as you have more than one source of incense, you will not lose access to it. The trade screen shows how many extras you have. As long as the number is (1) or larger, it is surplus, and will not be "lost".
