From what I could figure out so far, Wild Mana doesn't run on Windows 8. :(

Is there a way to make this work anyway ?
If someone could tell me how to achieve this, I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks in advance.

well I'm not sure I was even consciously aware that windows 8 was released...

I dont use win 8, sorry....

But can you play civ4 bts? If you can play it, you should be able to play MoM...
Civ4bts doesn't run, either.

Here's the thing : I recently bought a laptop ( for the first time ever ) so I could take Wild Mana with me on travels, but all these new machines come with Windows 8 and frankly, I had no idea windows 8 would let me down. Had no problems in the past going through the different windows versions.

I was just hoping someone would be able to make it work anyway ...
no such luck so far.
The only solution seems to be to downgrade to windows 7 but I'm very hestitant to do that, as I think this might mess up the entire system as windows 8 is so different from windows 7 and I don't want to take that risk just to allow me to play 1 game ...

AFAIK, you can go to start menu ala win7 from win8. You might try to start civ4 bts from that menu?

Edit: I searched the forum and found that many people can play civ4 bts and its mods in win8 just fine.

Here is one example: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=479375&highlight=Win8
Thanks for your help, Esvath.

I got Wild Mana running on Windows 8 since last Friday.
It took me some time searching and trying but in the end it is rather simple.

Right click the shortcut that takes you to WM ( or Civ4 )
Select "Properties"
Then click the "compatibility" tab
Then tick the option to "run this program in compatibility mode for :"
and select "windows 7" from the dropdown menu.
Click "apply" and "ok"

That's it.

Now I can take my favourite PC game with me wherever I go :)
