Will a theocracy civ still spread their non-state religion with a gifted missionary?

I was reading that it was changed back and forth between versions, I am playing version 3.19, and with the MacBUFFY mod version 3.19.003.

Based on what I was reading it should still work. Depending on the answer, I will either adopt theocracy or not myself, otherwise I would have to use spies to put that AI out of Theo for AP win, so better not to run theo myself

The side effect should be that it's impossible to spread any :religion: to your cities that is not your state religion, whether it's attempted by yourself or someone else. I'm not sure if it applies to random spreads and RE-based spreads, but it certainly applies to Missionaries.

The trick is that AIs don't actually have this limitation. If you gift an AI that's in Theocracy a Missionary of a different religion they'll still use it to spread that religion to their cities.

You can spread non-state religion in your own cities under theocracy with missionaries. Non-state religions will not auto-spread and other civs cannot add non-state religions to your cities while under theocracy.

I've had no problem gifting non-state missionaries to other civs running theocracy and having them add the religion to one of their cities. The gifted missionaries are still subject to the failure chance in cities that already have a religion, and the civ I've gifted the missionary to may decide to add the religion to a different city than the one i gifted the missionary in.
