Will Civ4 Mods Work with Warlords?

I was wondering, that since theres more to the game would this effect the Mods? Would Civ4 mods even work at all with the Warlords xml and such??

I was wondering because I'm going to buy Warlords tommorrow(already reserved) and wanted to use the Confederacy Mod so that I could make The Confederate States of America, Master to United States lol.
Will the mods work or will moding be needed to the mods?

Most if not all mods developed for Civ4 v1.61 or earlier will NOT work with Warlords. Mod makers will need to update their mods to make them Warlords compatible. The same is valid for mods developed for Warlords, they will NOT be compatible with Civ4 v1.61 or earlier.

But there are also good news: after installing Warlords you can also play Vanilla 1.61 too and its mods, so you are able to play your "old" mods after installing Warlords.

well that will be good... Guess I'll have to mod out my own Confederacy lol

Just want to know your opinion. Is warlords is worth for upgrade/expansion pack?

Thanks!

I havent played the game (I dont think anyone has at this point :mischief: ) but from what I read from the official site I was not too impressed...

sure there are some good senarios and vassal function look interesting... but...

(again this is my ignorant opinion :D )

I dont play senarios and I like a more military aspect so I would opt to destroy a rival civ... than control it...

although I admit if they too vassage to rebellion/colonists/new civ/former civ re-established... would be a interesting concept...

they have some new units/leaders/traits... but to me it seems almost the same that is modded here..

they add cool graphics and unique buildings/village/city to match civilzations, that is all well and good... but to me it's more fluff than substance.... rather than enhancing gameplay

my major problem with CIV4 is that it lacks the military aspect... (when compared to other civ games) and I was hoping Warlords would fix that problem... but the descriptions... seem lacking....

I mean I've seen better Great General Ideas modded here (no offense to modders here because your GG ideas are great and I use em! - I just hoped the official Civ4 guys would release something better/advanced than what modders are limited to  ) than what they plan to release in the expansion!

I was sorely disappointed :(

I thought maybe they would bring back the "armies" concept because seeing like 25 units square against 25 rival units becomes tedious (not to mention the lagging  )

Having said that, I could be completely wrong about it....

I am not getting my hopes up though

In the end I will probably be getting this expansion if for the only reason to update my "In-the-process-of-making" mod so more people can use it...
(when I finally release it  )

Okay enough of my rant....

Please understand these are my opinions and I am wrong most of the time :crazyeye:

One think to bear in mind is that Warlords mods almost certainly won't work for vanilla Civ 4. If Civ 3 is anything to go by, most mods will be produced for Warlords, and updates will be mainly produced for Warlords. This means that modding for vanilla Civ 4 will likely dry up...

Good point TGA. Eventually people will have to buy Warlords and eventually Civ4 Gold (or whatever they call a combo pack) just to play the next generation of mods. I think Firaxis should give us all a big, sloppy kiss. ;)

The Warlords game gets its own subdirectory and it leaves the entire vanilla game structure intact. So you can play the original game and all the mods you want as well as using the Warlords.exe for all the new stuff.

I have great news for everyone: CIV4 Gold 2.0 is already out! Get it here!

Is it possible to have empty Civ IV maps, and put them into Warlords "custom scenarios"? (As in, maps with no civs, pre-made maps)

I tried putting them in Warlord's publicmaps folder, but no luck.

You have to change the fileending.. the warlords worldbuildersaves has a different one than the vanilla civ4 ones

Just discovered what he means....you got to change the file extension for those files to ".CivWarlordsWBSave" so that the game recognizes them. They work fine after that, it seems.

Once again: how?

Well, first you have to have Windows set to show file extensions. Then you can usually click on the name, or right-click and select "Rename" and then change the extension to whatever you need it to be.

:/

I assume the file extensions are below the name of the file?

Like:

Thing
Different Thing
50 KB

If not, then how do I make Windows show file extensions? Also, if it's like the Python files (With a .py) at the end of the name of the file, I assume that isn't a file extension? If it is, then what do I put at the end?

It's possible you can see the .py extension because it isn't listed as a "known" file type. I guess you can look for Word or Excel documents and see if they have .doc or .xls extensions on the name. Paper.doc, Spreadsheet.xls, etc. If you don't see a .doc or .xls extension then do this:

Go to My Computer, Control Panel and Folder Options. Click on the View tab. Go down the list and look for a checkbox labeled "Hide extensions for known file types". If it is checked, uncheck it and click the Apply button.

That should make sure that the extensions will show up.

If you want to rename the worldbuilder files, I think the [civ4] WBS files are:
filename.Civ4WorldBuilderSave
...and the Warlords WBS are:
filename.CivWarlordsWBSave

So I guess you can rename your [civ4] WBS saves to match the Warlords ones and it might load. Haven't tested it, though.

It worked. Thanks.
