In Civ V you can send a worker near the Iroquois and cut down all the trees to get rid of their bonus. To me it seems like you can do the same to the Celts. What do you guys think?

The Celt's biggest strength is early. I doubt you can chop down all their trees before they get their Pantheon and first prophet and have a huge head start on religion.

Also, how can you do this without declaring war?

I was meaning cutting down trees around their territory where they might make a 2nd city. But I do see what your saying.

Yeah, it's not very efficient. They only need one tree to get faith from it.

Though the bonus does double if you have 3 or more. So, you could pretty easily *weaken* their ability.

...but who wants to waste time depriving another civ of 1 faith/turn when that worker could be doing better things?

Edit: Also, from now on whenever I play against the Iroquois, I'm going to strategically chop a few forests to deprive them of their trading routes. Mwahaha. :mwaha:

Actually thats why in multi if I am ever the Iroquois I never allow open borders. People are ruthless and would actually do this haha.

Well, that requires quite a few turns to chop all the trees or else the Celts might just move slightly to still capture them. It's much easier with the Iroquois to create essentially a "fire break" in their trade network by cutting on or two forests as opposed to all of them.

Personally, I'd rather use my worker to build a farm or mine instead. Seems a much better use of my time.

 You don't need to pre-empt them. Wait till they build a city, chop the forests. Or y'know, go with your plan B and have your workers do something useful instead. :)

If you wait until they build the city, why not just conquer the city? I agree with the latter. That's what I'd do.

 I don't usually do domination victories. As a matter of fact, some of my favorite games are when I don't declare war at all, and just ruthlessly repel any invaders without taking any of their cities myself. I find it makes the diplo-AI...tolerable if you're not trying to take their stuff.

Well, you have to declare war to chop down forests next to their city, so the talk about not declaring war isn't applicable to this thread. Keep in mind the Celtic ability applies to forests directly next to their city. So, in order to chop down their forests, you need to declare war and move your worker directly next to their city and protect it until it manages to chop down the forests. While it might be fun to be mean, it's easier just to capture and raze the city.
