Win 7 Installation issue

I am trying to install the original Civ4, off the disk, on to a Win 7 machine. I understand that I need patch 1.74, but Win 7 will not let me install the game at all. It give a few error messages, then goes to a screen that says Play-Readme-Exit. Not sure how it got to that screen since I haven't been able to install it at all. any thoughts?

Try installing into it's on folder. e.g. C:\GAMES\CIV4

This worked for me on my Win 7 x 64 machine. Gets around all the permissions issues and also futher issues you may encounter when you install additional mods.

I got just the same thing. It plays without the patch.

Uninstall the whole lot. Reinstall a virgin Civ 4. Don't patch.
Grrr.....
