Hello,

I recently bought a new computer runing on Windows 8 and installed Civ V and G&K.
My computer is a GT70 0NE, CPU IntelCore i7-3630QM 2.4 GHz 8 cores, NVidia GeForce GTX 680M (4Gb), RAM 8GB, drivers up to date.

1) There seems to be a problem with the use of the resources of the computer bu the game. According to the information I've found on internet, I should be able to run Civ V with graphics options set on maximum (or nearly). In facts, I've to stay at normal to have a smooth game. With options maxed up, even on the very beginning of the game, the game is very slow. Did I overestimate my computer or is there a problem ?

2) I can't launch Civ V with the Dx 9 or 11 shortcut. Only Dx 11(Windows 8) works, but I dislike the modification made on controls of units.

3) The World Builder of the SDK crashes at launch.

4) The game crashes at a stable point in the game, always at the same point whatever I do. Between games, the point where it crashes is different but in the same game it's always the same.

Compatibility mode doesn't solve anything. Drivers are up to date, I checked the intregrity of the cache, I uninstalled/reinstalled (twice), tried with differents settings.

Is there a solution to these problems ?

Here's the Dxdiag file.

For some reason your dxdiag is listing the integrated graphics (HD 4000) as your main display adaptor. Is this a laptop?

If it is a desktop go into the bios and disable the onboard graphics.

If it is a laptop, you need to enable the nvidea drivers or find out why your nvidea is not being used as the main display adaptor.

I will be playing with a windows 8 touch laptop with only the HD 4000 in a couple of weeks, so I hope that there is not a big issue with it.

This might indeed some technical difficulties I encounter with others games.
It seems to be quite common : the system is meant to recognize which GPU it should use in consideration with the requirements of the game. But obviously, the system never switches to dedicated GPU (GeForce) and then, Intel 4000 is not enough, thus lags.
I'm using a laptop and drivers NVidia are up to date; furthermore, NVidia graphical settings allow me to run the game with the GeForce specifically ... and then the game won't even start. It seems the NVidia panel doesn't recognize Civ V as installed on my computer.

I'm looking on the net, but haven't found any solution yet.

Edit : I've no problem with Anno 2070 (not steam), which runs perfectly maxed out; NVidia panel confirms that it's using the dedicated GPU. That's not the case with any of my steam games or with Anno 1404.

2) seems to resolve itself. Dx10&11 shortcut works.

And then I can max out the graphic settings and it seems to work fine (early game).

3) not solved; 4) persists with a save, I'll see if it happens with a new game.

All I did was uninstall/reinstall the graphic card with driver before 310.90 (seems bugged) and set the Nvidia control to default settings.
