Windows update causing problems?

Last night I did my regular Windows update and now when I try to run Civ 5 it starts up the initial Steam window, then opens up a black console like window and then I get the gray Windows error pop-up saying "Sid Meier's Civ V has stopped working."

Anyone else run into this or is it just another one of my never-ending computer mysteries?

Did you try to verify the file integrity in steam itself? Maybe really someting got corrupted.

Another thing to check is the compatability setting for the Steam.exe file... I use Win 7, auto-update, and auto patch. (It's a lifestyle choice)

For some reason Steam.exe was running in Vista compatability mode, no SP. I disabled compatability mode and it resolved an unrelated problem. Verify the file too, as The J mentioned. We can assist if you need steps
