Didn't know what to call the title? I have a Windows XP Pro machine that has Fast User Switching Enabled. I would like to keep Civilization open on both running users, but since there is a shared repository for the files across all users on a machine, are there any problems with it?

IOW, me and my girl want to keep our own games open all the time in our own Windows XP Login Sessions, but I really would hate for it to mess up her game! Or mine for that matter!!

What do you think?

I personally think you'll have a near impossible time being able to keep up with how much memory that uses, unless you have over 2 gigs of RAM.

Time for a new computer. The resource conflicts would go through the roof, and you would get unexplained errors for memory accesses even if the game actually runs.

u can try right click, then run as... then type in windows account, and that account must have password, or it wont work.

I would think it would depend on the machine and map size. I used to do that with diablo2 for a server client since diablo 2 expressly disallowed multiple instances but didnt seem to have an answer for the switching.

The question we should ask though is did you try and what happened?

I have been doing it, but I would hate for me to have played for 12 hours, left my game up, then my girl come along, switch users, log in as herself to her already opened game, and it hose out and we loose either my game or her game.

The resources on my machine are quite ample to run both instances, I am not concerned about any of that. I just want to ensure that I will not loose my current game.

I do know that the save game folder will be replaced with what the player playing is, but that doesn't concern me. (unless I am sneak attacked, then I cheat load and old autosave and prepare for war).

With a box that current I guess my only question would be, "why bother?" It doesn't take that long to start Civ4 and load a save game and if you're concerned with losing the game that much just save it and restart the game later.

"Why bother"?

Because I can. Yes, the load time is fairly quick, but when I can skip the 90 seconds of starting the game and loading of my saved game, that gives me another turn or two of actual game play instead of looking at a progress bar.

Plus I like going over there playing a couple moves during a commercial break, etc.

are you sure this doesn't already work? the shared repostory is based on username so i would think that each usr has there own repository.
