A suggestion here:

i sometimes see poll's that are needed for the continuing of our game that have pretty obvious voting option's.i therefore propose to close poll's that have an clear cut result.
So this rule.

If there are less than ten vote's ,and one option has 8 more vote's on it than an other vote ,the the vote is decided and clossed.
If there are more than ten vote's ,and any option has 10 more vot's than any other option ,then that poll is closed and decided.
Every poll must have run atleast one hour though.

This is not mandatory ,just a suggestion ,feel free to post youre own sugestion's.

I think such measurement's are used by the American democracy to? i heared tht once on t.v.

please make this sticky or bump sometimes

Officially this is not done in the US. The media uses exit polls to ask everyone who they voted for and theirby gauge where the election is heading. Often elections will be called once the voting is over and a certain percentage of the voting is done if one candidate is ahead, but this is only judging by statistical rules, and is not the official result. Our most recent election for President shows what can happen when people jump the gun. The media gets confused, candidates concede, and then withdrawal their concession, etc. etc. The true results however aren't final until all the votes are counted.

That aside, I don't think that it has any bearing on our current question, I was just trying to correct a misconception.

Yeah, an hour's a bit soon isn't it? Admittedly if you have a majority of all the registered players even though not all have cast their vote then their response wouldn't affect the final result so you can take the vote as decided. I think that you could also delete old polls and appoint a historian sooner rather than later to make a record of the events. This would save a lot of space on the forum and make it easier for visitors to access.

Hmm ,everybody seems to agree on this proposal.Though everybody proposes a longer time than 1 hour. (wich was just a sugestion)

So ,what do you guys think: What should be the minimum waiting time?

I have an other suggestion

instead of pegging a number like 10, peg a number that is more poll realisitc. most polls I have seen have 20 votes, so therefore, if you have an option that has 11 votes already, and the other option has 1 less then half of that total, and the total is less then then number, then close that poll. this number of 20 may go up in the future, so move the poll number then up also.

examples:
11-5 close the poll
11-5-4 cose the poll
11-5-4-3 dont close the poll
11-5-4-1 close the poll
11-6 dont close the poll

I have another rather radical suggestion. Why don't we let the cabinet members make all the short-term day-to-day operational decisions? Of course they'll have to make a full report on their decisions. We, the electorate, shld only be involved when it's regarding long-term issues, founding of cities, taxes etc i.e. stuff which can dramatically affect the growth (or decline) of our nation.

E.g. The expansion leader shalt assume direct command of the assigned exploration unit and move it. Then he'll need to report to us what he found and the outcome.

E.g. In war, the military leader shall appoint (or even assume direct command) a general to command all our forces in an operational theatre. We, the electorate, can set overall goals (e.g. capture that Zulu city) but how to do it will be dealt with directly by the officer in chg. Of course, we can always mob him if the campaign failed ..... :D

Otherwise, we'll still be holding polls to decide how to move units after BC. This can be tedious if we have 100 units .....

This is kinda how I assumed it would work. I think the plan is to go slowly these first few turns when many important things are happening, and then to have the above system start.

I think that the minimum time allowed for polls should be at least half a day, about 4-6 hours. I agree with Spy that we need to be able to allow as many folks as possible to be able to vote. Some of us are in school or at work, and cannot check in until later. Some are in vastly different time zones than others, and the polls would be closing just as they are getting on. I think it is of paramount importance that as many as possible have a say in the workings and such of our Government, and we should encourage all of our citizens to get out and vote.

Dont we have 50 people? I say 26 should be the number for a poll with 2 options; 17 for a poll with 3 options, 13 for 4 options, and so forth...or maybe I am just drunk again..i dunno.

In reality the citizen registry says we're 39 people. Also the most votes we got in a thread was 28. So, maybe the magical number should be between 10-15.

What I do, and I advocate all of you doing, is NOT looking at the votes till AFTER you vote.

It seems that some of you aern't doing that, or you wouldn't be whining about votes not counting.

Make it a secret ballot to yourself, and stop trying to be such control freaks.

% of votes is bull, and will be the death of the game (and my patience), enough talk of systems and such.

Just don't look, VOTE!

Simple. ;)
