Winter Olympics

Anyone remember the 1972 Summer Olympics basketball finals? Oh my gosh, that "refereeing" was 300% worse that the pairs figure skating this year. And that's in an "objective" sport.

I think the moral of the story is, you can corrupt ANY sport if you have crooks running it.

True, but still there's a difference between wrong decisions in an objective sense (like there were probably in that finals) and decisions that people think of as "wrong" because of personal taste (more or less).

This STILL frustrates me. I get so upset when I see this. If any of you have ever seen it played out (and wasn't rooting for the USSR), you know what I mean. The most frustrating sports moment of my life.....that didn't involve the Dodgers. ;)

I would imagine this figure skating thing is pretty much the same thing. I didn't see it, so I don't know for sure.

Thing that struck me were the judges. I know one was Russian, then there was one from the Ukraine and another East Euro and a Chinese.....

Shouldn't they strive for a little more diversity?

With only 2 outstanding decisions,I can say we made it.

Germany will be first in medal ranking in both counting ways, total number of medals or number of gold medals.

Even if I don´t agree with Bush´s opening speech, these were wonderful games and I´m waiting for Athens 2004 and Torino 2006.

Unfortunately, they were the worst ever Winter Olympics for Russia. :( :(

So I'm afraid I can't agree with you...

"The world did not seem to be worth living in after Russia lost to USA in ice hockey." (that's the general attitude of Russians after Friday's disaster) :( :( :( :suicide:

But, Well Done Germany! 35 medals in total!

However Norway might beat you on gold medal tally, if the Spaniard Muellegg is disqualified, Norway will receive two extra gold medals, bringing up their total to 13, while Germany has 12.

I think if at all he will just lose his last gold medal. A Russian would get that one then. As far as I've heard he'll probably keep the first two medals.

And despite Germany's overall success, I don't think it were wonderful games. There were just too many scandals and controversies (Figure Skating, Short Track, the Russian claims of being ripped at multiple occasions, and also Mühlegg) to call it wonderful.

Jeez, if that's the attitude, what happened way back after the "Miracle on Ice"? ;) Seriously, tell the Russians to cheer up! I saw the third period, and they played great. There were just a few lucky bounces off the goalpost and some good saves by Richter that kept them out of the gold medal game.

Concerning the original topic of this thread (whether anyone will watch), I've been watching various events, but since I saw the end of the USA-Russia hockey game, I've been excited about the gold medal game versus Canada. I'm gonna watch that one!

*checks watch* OH NO! IT'S STARTING! GOTTA GO!

Whoops, looks like I opened up a hockey wound in another nation:crazyeyes. Just think happy thoughts, Swedes and Russians. Happy thoughts.............

PS: I am still watching (3-2 Canada in third period, d'oh!)
