Down here going bush would have a high chance of killing you in winter. In NZ the cities and towns are almost Islands and the small towns are generally located along the roads connecting them. There's no major road there. Western North island very rural and that area is between Hamilton and New Plymouth. Main roads run through the middle of the island.
King country hills, forest, bush. You would probably need to deploy lots of cops or army to flush him out possible shoot out with kids around as well. That's assuming you can even find them.
