The Winzip program I have always ask me if I want to register or use the evaluation version. What is the difference? They say there's a 40 day trial period, but I've been using it for a long long time. (I don't have a patch or crack or anything.) Should I register or just keep using the evaluation version?

It's their marketing.

If they ban you from using it beyond trial period, a lot less people would be using Winzip. If the ZIP file format become less popular, it'll be *very* bad for them.

So they just let you continue to use it, but just use their methods (dialog screen, button switching places and shortcut keys, etc.) to annoy you so much that you might go register it.

Personally I just use the integrated function in WinXP.

I rather use WinRar, is handles .RAR files much more efficiently, an they are quite common. But they also ask you to register after 30 days, but the program still works normally

Yeah. I use only winrar, much better compression.

I have been using winrar for two years, I got it so i could get more morrowind mods. I put it onto another another computer and I found myself waiting for the pop up telling me to register! I just got used to it. And yes, it is annoying.

Tell me about it, that pop up window is really annoying, but sometimes I am faster than the pop up window!!! :)

Yeah. I try to do that my self. You really get used to it after a time

You only get the registration window with WinRAR if you actually open the program; executing stuff through the context menu you never get it (unless you do the generic "Add to archive..." command which launches the main program anyway). But for just extracting, always go through the right-click thing, it's a lot faster in the long run.
