Wiping empty space on a HD ? Security issue

Hello,

My question is:

I am wondering is there is a program that will wipe the empty space on your hard drive. I'm not a "computer geek" but I've been told enough that I can be dangerous

I have the Norton Wipe Disk program but I am looking for a different program that is like it but not Norton. I find Norton tries to take over my computer too much and do bad things.

To the suggestions I would further ask; does it wipe the extra space in the files? (I'm not sure how to word it so I'll describe it)
When you save a file that is really say...5 bytes and the assigned file size is say...8 I want to wipe the empty 3 as well. (Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it has something to do with FAT sizes or something.)

Hmmmmm. I have seen a few files that trim the file sizes by removing "useless" random characters that it claims are unnecessary. The chances are you would be better off leaving everything as is.

I know I am probably misunderstanding what you want to say but, why do you wan't to wipe the empty space? Anything new you put on it will just overwrite what is previously there. If this helps, then your welcome. If not, please post a few more specifics and I'll see what I can find out.

Try Kremlin encrypt. Its very easy to use, uses strong algorithms, and is small and efficient. And it does nothing else than what it is supposed to do (unlike Norton). The secure delete command writes to file full of zeros before wiping it from the HD.
