Won my first game on king ever today using the Celts winining, played on continents, and won a science victory with a score of 3552. Got lucky early on with a slow start before getting my culture up and running. I rushed the liberty tree to crank out settlers but in the end only had 5 cities that where actually mine. On my continent i had Bismark, Rome, and India. Bismark went from friendly to guarded rather quick so when he went to war with Rome i rushed his capitol and took. After that i fought off a roman blitz that nearly captured berlin. For a good 150 turns there was peace on my part before ghandi decided to go warmonger. nearly 4 wars later his empire of 8 cities fell to 1 city leaving the bulk of the continent in my hands. from then on out with only a few side wars my 5 main cities cranked out science to a grand total of 990 per turn. all ocupied cities had trading posts built like crazy. by the end of the game i had over 15k in gold (ive never ever had that much). I think ill experiment some more on king before jumping to the next difficulty. :D

Yes, a very disappointing and boring diplo victory. Made me quit the game for an year. My first CIV win on King/Monarch I remember much more fondly

Reading how you wont your first civ4 game it sounds like it was amazing.

now compare to my first CiV win. i don't remember if it was Prince or King, now that I think about it, I do think it was King. At launch at least CiV was definitely not the game I wanted it to be.

Now after G+K though I can say it has definitely come a long way :)

My first foray into civ was civilization revolution on the ipod and loved it. i could beat any difficulty in the game with no problem so this January i decided to buy civ3 when steam had a sale for 5 dollars. i found civ3 alot harder just playing on prince and could never get past the stage of early gunpowder. i did find it alot of fun though so i bought civ5 thinking it would be even better. I found civ5 to be dumb down alot and city states to be broken. Until gods and kings i had stopped playing with city states. The current game feels alot better and diplo seems better.

I remember my first was space victory on civ 3. Back then I was in high school, and that ending movie was so cool. I was like wheee and jumped.

Though I don't remember what events led to me doing a space race.

Civ Call to Power! I was a sid player back then, and it was great to build sea colonies, sky colonies and build my palace throne room into a courtyard, then a castle, then a spaceship...

In civ5 my first win was a boring domination victory at turn 600, Marathon speed, Noble difficulty with Mongols. 1 and half year ago AI was really dumb so it required just 3 Keshik and a Khan

Still trying. Getting off to a terrible start on the new G&K. I can slap the AI around on prince all day. I think I am too nice for King. I like the culture wins and the science. Just gonna have to get tough. I about through my Mac out the window when Atilla battered by third city early in the game. He and I were the only two on an island it was over. Two hours wasted.

I fired up G & K on Prince, as Atilla, and stopped playing after conquering all my near neighbors within about 100 turns (on Epic speed, mind you). I played on Emperor in Vanilla, but what with the changes to the tech tree which basically got rid of my strategy of wonder-tech-GP slingshots as well as purported improvements to the AI, I didn't feel comfortable starting off on King or Emperor.

Second game, on King as Theodora, tried for peaceful building with a pretty start, was beaten to the GL and about 1000 years later got utterly crushed by a joint Ethiopian-Iroquois invasion.

Now I'm playing as the Mongols on King and though I probably won't finish the game my victory is all but assured.

I didn't actually finish a game in Vanilla until earlier this year--I usually stop playing pretty soon after I reach the tipping point where the AI couldn't possibly win even if they destroyed all my units and captured half my cities.

I'm going to try going peaceful again next game (which will be on King), most likely as Theodora or Haile Selassie.

Ethiopia is a great peacemonger if combined with the other policies and belief that gives combat bonuses - just stay a bit "small" and fear no unit a tech level ahead!

One-city-challenge with Gandhi, cultural victory, against literally the entire world declaring war on me back to back.

The game as Ethiopia is going pretty well. I started right next to Askia, so I had to fight off an early attack, but I managed it and was also first to found a religion (started next to some tundra and grabbed Dance of the Aurora, plus Steles).

I founded Zoroastrianism, renaming it Rastafarianism, and chose Interfaith dialogue and extra food from shrines and temples (later enhancing with cheaper missionaries and inquisitors plus faster growth during peace). Happily teching my way through th Renaissance at the moment using Askia's Islamic-dominated cities to shave off research turns with missionaries.

Science victory on Prince as Japan.Had to Conquer Ethiopia and defend myself against Byzantium and the Maya. The Huns were my best friends surprisingly. They destroyed Netherlands and Carthage , so the whole world hated them except me.It was fun.I noticed that the AI is a bit better in combat and diplomacy.
